The GSSI (Group Short Subscriber Identity) represents the TG (Talkgroup) in which Group Communication take place in the TETRA System. Without that filter mechanism in the 5700 you will follow all traffic one the carrier you are tuned in. So maybe lot's of different traffic and only some traffic you're intrested in. With that feature you may whitelist wanted traffic (GSSIs) and block the unwanted.

Except for the fact 5700D owners can’t do updates them self and have to ship it to Japan.
