Gtx programming help

I have a couple of gtx900's that I'm trying to reprogram for the ham band. A fellow ham gave me his RSS to program them, when I type install as the instructions tell me to it says it's putting it into subdirectory d:\ mrss\gtx , when I go to the command prompt d:\ and type in gtx , it says bad command or file name, what I'm I doing wrong?

You cannot run the RSS from the install disk which is what the D:\ indicates, it must be from the C:> prompt


It needs to be installed and then run using true DOS on your computers C drive.

For instance the command when the MRSS is properly installed on your computers C drive will be something like follows, ( when at the DOS prompt) C: > type CD C:\MRSS\gtx which is the DOS command to change directories (CD) to the proper MRSS directory for the gtx software on your C drive.

Next you need to type > gtx.exe to run the executable from the proper MRSS\GTX subdirectory.


Also what type of PC and what OS are you trying to install this on, hopefully some version of older windows with a version of DOS that is old and if not on some version of DOS then be advised that the RSS will not run under any version of Windows alone.

It will work only when run through a true version of DOS and not any Windows alone through some kind of DOS emulation reliably.

There are some who have used with varying degrees of success some DOS emulators in newer versions of Windows but I have never had success using these methods.

If you are not from the era of DOS operating systems then I suggest researching DOS to see the various commands required to install and operate the software properly.

I'm running Windows XP, 2.4 GHz. When I use my maxtrac Rss I use a dos boot up disk then I put the maxtrac disk in and it works, I thought I could do the same with the gtx Rss.guess not. On my PC it runs everything on d: drive , the hard drive is partitioned into 2 drives c and d. Drive e is for the 3 1/2 disk.

Ok I have done what you describe, I have the program loading up. I did a comm test, it failed, says serial bus error #5 power failure. So I tried to read the radio , it also failed and get a error 6 serial bus error timeout.

Ok I went a step further. I have a older laptop, I dug through some boxes and found a set of disks for dos 6.2, I loaded it up on the laptop. Installed the program, YES it works , now I need to hex edit the program to allow out of band programming.
