i have heard rumors that guad. Co. wants to change from the kenwood nexedge system. to what, i have no idea... does anyone have any insight on the move or if its even going to happen?!? personally its pretty annoying going from listening to vhf analog repeaters to a system i cant monitor. (althought this dilemma did get me into DSD, havnt perfected it yet...)

There is an upgrade path from NXDN to P25. The radios (NX200/300/700/800) can be upgraded to Project 25 and have P25 trunking added into them. The NXDN repeaters will not upgrade to P25.

The chief of the New Berlin VFD is on here from time to time, may be able to help you out. Last I heard all of the county VFD's were going to go P25 and the SO was staying Nextedge. But that was a few months ago..the SO sitll has their South channel patched to vhf on 155.9025 and DPS and K9 units use 155.4375 P25 for ops and traffic stuff. So there is still some county stuff to hear law enforcement wise.

at this point, I do not beleive that the SO will migrate to any other system in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, the above info is correct. The VFD's will be moving to a P25 system near the end of the year. same freqs. tone outs will be done in analog mode and then all further comms will be on p25. mobiles and portables are being distributed now and the infrastructure will arrive sometime in November. the p25 system is a two site conventional analog/p25 mixed mode infrastructure with voting receivers.
