A few times of late I have had people contact me asking for some "starter" frequencies for the my local area. I have now written a bit of a "Guide to Radio Scanning" for my local area. This covers not just frequencies but also some background information on them and advice on suitable equipment.

This is what I have so far: Launceston Scanning Guy: Guide to Radio Scanning in Launceston Tasmania

Leaving aside the area this is written for and the frequencies for this area, as a new person to the radio scanning hobby what sort of information would you find helpful and what format would be the best way to deliver this?

Perhaps explaining basic radiotelephone procedures would help new listeners follow the conversation, such as "You, this is me, over." Perhaps an explanation of radio wave propagation could help listeners understand why their able to hear some frequencies and not others.
