I have set my SDS100 Range to 50mi.

At this page: WQXS381 towers 1 n' 4 are within my listening range

At this page: WPEM250 towers 4, 7 n' 8 are within my listening range

Yes, I know about 'line of sight'. Granvile County comes in easy, but. Guilford County has always been a problem.

I have the Global Attenuator to OFF

Any ideas'

Setting scanner to 50 miles doesn't mean you will pickup everything within 50 miles! Zip Code scanning?

Are you using an outside antenna?

30 miles to tower 7, 35 miles to tower 4, 700-800mhz range is between 15 and 25 miles, with hills and trees (looking at terrain map of your area) that is quite a stretch for even an outside antenna, inside antenna forget it!

Even with my 18 element yagi 30 miles is about the best I can do thru the trees, and we don't have any hills around.

I don't do Zip Code scanning. I only program my scanners.

I can get Alamance, Chatham(home), Durham, Granville, Harnett, Lee, Moore, Orange, Person, and Wake.

Well, If I go by Google Maps, from county to county, that is 60mi., so. I took a look at the distance from my location, to towers listed on the two FCC licenses. As I mentioned in my OP, sort of. I am in the listening range of five of twelve towers in the two FCC licenses.

Setting range only works on zip code or gps scanning, for setting what systems you scan from the Master Database. Your effective listening range depends on a variety of things that can effect your reception. There is no magic setting for your effective range.

The Guilford system has a range of 19 miles, even the closest tower to you is out of the effective range of the tower if you extend the circle towards Pittsboro, regardless of what you consider your effective listening range, which will vary from day to day conditions.

You need a very good outside antenna as high up as possible, and even then depending on terrain, any obstacles, buildings, leaves, temperature, etc. you may not receive the Guilford signal consistently.
