Hey All.

Thought I would share some of the things I have heard this weekend on some Military Freqs. If anyone can offer information about the callsigns I sure would appreciate it.

275.600

Sea Breeze

On 275.600 The following statements were heard.

"Mig fighters are set on CAP"
"Smoke in the air southbound @ 5 level"

From other comments heard it sounds like they were operating in an area about 10 to 20 miles south of Pensacola.

Also heard "FOX 3" many times, so I would gues they were practicing jumping the bad guys. What's the difference between FOX 1, FOX 2 and FOX 3?

Was fun listening to them here in Mobile Al with my 396T and it's extendable whip antenna.

Here are the callsigns you heard and where they are from. If you are interested in monitoring MilAir, check out the Milcomm WIKI. It is a good place to start.

REX (F-15C 22 FS/159 FW, LA ANG at NAS New Orleans)
VODOO (F-15C Langley AFB)
JAZZ (C-130 314 AW, Little Rock AFB, AR)
BLADE (F/A-18A VMFA-115 MCAS Beaufort)
CAP (COMBAT AIR PATROL)
FOX 03 (C-130 USMC)

Fox-1= launch of a semi-active radar guided missile, like an AIM-7 Sparrow
Fox-2= launch of a Sidewinder air-to-air missile
Fox-3= launch an active radar guided air-to-air missile

JAZZ is more likely an F-15 from 122nd FS /159th FG LA ANG
VOODOO is a 94th FS callsign and I think they have completely transitioned to F-22s.

Thanks Freqhopping and RMPDCOP.

And Freqhopping you are correct, the 94 FS has completed the changeover to the Raptors: I googled them and read a couple of stories about the changeover.

It's nice to have some background on what you're hearing and what you have told me will make it that much more enjoyable to listen to.

Thanks again.
