• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Oh man, anyone else listening to Portland PB today ???
All of these incidents, as far as I could tell, were related to the low rider show.

THREE shootings (2 w/ victims)
HUNDREDS of people (semi/mini riot) refusing to leave area around MLK & Jessup, Killingsworth, Simpson etc
Central, East, and Southest all donated units to assist
(For the people at home counting, that is ALL FIVE PPB prcnts helping out)

More than 15 fights in that large group of people along the street, MLK was closed a few times in the evening

It was a GREAT listen !!!

UPDATE:: (@ 1 am)
ok, so make that FOUR shootings, they just had another one... no injuries.... man I'm gonna be tired tomorrow !!!

Transit Police were there too. Man, that explains the strange phone call I got at work tonight. Guess I'll have to watch some news ;)

Joescanner:

Did you hear that PPB was escorting busses out of the area because of the mood of the crowd?
I *think* they said line 6 had about 4 PPB units escorting it out of the area.

The really funny thing is that the BDS (bus radio dispatch) system was down most of the day -- and came back up just in time for this. [When BDS is down, operators can contact dispatchers, but dispatchers can't easily contact a specific bus.]

Afterwards, there was a lot of activity. But I missed the police escorts. Wow! Sometimes they (the bus dispatchers) have all the fun!

Don't you hate that? It's like the high-rise fire that Dick H. posted about. I actually heard it (half-asleep) and couldn't make any sense of it. So I was happy to learn about what I heard.

I usually keep my scanner on "just enough" that if it gets really busy it will wake me up. Last night, I was so tired I slept through just about everything.

Best catch on something like that? The bowling-alley fire on Sandy about 6 years ago. I had just crawled into bed when the first alarm went out. I gained a lot of talkgroup information that night (that got added in here and at joescanner.com!).

Well, I didnt have to listen to the scanner,, because I live right there... All I wanted to do was to get some groceries at Safeway (MLK and Jarret) the whole lot was packed with kids... I decided to go to Albertsons instead. There sure where alot of cops there. What was kind of funny, was the cops where trying to get people off MLK, so they routed people off, but people just went a blok up, and back onto MLK...And so did I... It seemed a little half assesd... And really, there wherent that many people, at least not when I was driving down MLK that day.
