Is anyone scanning Habersham Co. SO, Fire and EMS? What scanner are you using? Are they encrypted? I know they have gone digital, just wondering if anyone has any experience with them on here?

I use a BCD436HP for monitoring the Habersham County Connect+ trunked system. It works reasonably well when and where it has a solid signal. Like all consumer-grade scanners, it features fairly rapidly decreasing performance as signal drops below something akin to "very strong".

I also sometimes use my CS751 DMR radio, programmed to "scan" the active frequencies looking for my talkgroups of interest (given the CS751 isn't a real trunking scanner). This works reasonably well to. It misses some transmissions entirely since scanning DMR channels can be slow and 'late entry' doesn't always work well, but when it catches the conversation it sounds terrific even with weaker signals. Once it catches a conversation it is generally good at following all replies because the Connect+ system doesn't change frequencies between replies of the same conversation.

Twotoejoe, you can do it a whole lot cheaper using Whistler 1080, 1095, 1088,1098 since DMR is included. Regardless of what is said about them not trunk tracking DMR. I have no problem with Jackson County or Habersham. Loud and clear, even 10+ miles away. I've been using my 1088 for two years.

No need to pay the big buck$ for the Uniden, plus paying $60 for the upgrade.

I don't really understand because at first glance the Whistler 1088 is almost $100 higher than the Uniden BCP436HP.

I use my BCD996P2 scanner as well as a CS701 radio programmed to receive (only) Habersham's DMR system. Both work very well! You can also monitor Habersham Fire/EMS via conventional 155.310 (186.2).

But, Mike, he still has to pay the sixty dollars to upgrade the 996P2.
Just trying to give him alternate sources other than Uniden.

Larry,

I completely understood why you offered that information - and you were correct, as usual. I READILY admit to having been a Bearcat/Uniden-preferred owner since my earliest year in scanning (1978). I have owned a few Realistic/Radio Shack/GRE/Whistler scanners but consistently returned to the Uniden models to where I am today - exclusively Uniden's architecture, EVEN WHEN THE UNIDEN MODEL IS A HIGHER PRICE. There - I've said it!! I'm a Uniden junkie! Son't play golf, smoke, have a boat, etc. so I tend to "waste" money sometimes on radios and scanners. I feel so much better now that it's off my chest. Larry, haven't seen you in a long time but I hope you and your bride are doing well. Keep those ears open in Georgia - you're a GREAT source of current information.
