I have a PRO-106 which is stationed on my desk 99% of the time. It is AC powered, and has the standard battery holder (loaded) in place. There are usually NIMHs loaded.

I use the yellow holder as a spare to enable a quick change when mobile. It is usually loaded with NIMHs, but occasionally, I will temporarily use alkalines when the others are charging.

Well, I slipped up and forgot to change the holders when returning home while alkalines were in place. As a result, I got a little leakage.

Since I don't charge the batteries in the unit, I decided to permanently disable the function, which is quite easy to do. With needle-nose pliers, I grabbed the innermost (scanner) contact and bent it up and down, until it broke off.

Problem solved. Now, I can change holders at will, without regard to what's loaded in them.
