I'm just getting started with my scanner and I need some help finding good Frequencies for the RCMP, Fire Pagers and EHS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also need help identifying some frequencies I already have. The Frequencies are as listed:

148.225
148.315
154.740
155.730

153.830
153.890
157.875

153.080
153.740
162.780
171.150
172.440

As mentioned before, any help in both cases would be greatly appreciated.

Out of what you listed, pretty much the only thing you're going to be able to listen to (easily) on that scanner are the fire pages, which you can find on the following page in our database under Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency:

Halifax County, Nova Scotia (NS) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

EHS and RCMP (as well as the HRM fire operations channels) are on the provincial Motorola trunked radio system, and on top of that the RCMP (and Halifax Regional Police) are using digital talkgroups, so you would need a new digital trunking scanner to be able to even think about receiving those services.

Now you said easily, what do you mean by that?

Okay, simply put, you can't listen to HRM fire operations, EHS, Halifax Regional Police or RCMP with that receiver.

And one more question, will I be able to recieve frequencies:
152.360
158.130
170.610

Yes you will be able to receive those frequencies. 152.36 is the bridge commission, the other two are Saint Mary's University.

This is an intriguing list. I will bet that this radio is from somewhere else in Canada. I looked up most of these for the Maritimes and these are all over the map as far as who uses them.... no relationship that I can see. The higher ones... 162.78 and up ....don't fit the American band plan but do fit the Canadian one.... hence me saying Canadian.

I am a bit confused about what kind of scanner this is... brand and model??

Correct, you will be able to hear the pages.

Depending on how close to the fire scene you may be at the time, you may be able to hear something on the vehicle repeaters, which are low power repeaters the trucks have on board to assist with on-scene communications. The frequencies for those are in the database.

But the main wide-area repeaters (that actually cover the entire province) use a technology called trunking, which your scanner doesn't support.

So the repeaters the the scanner is able to recieve don't have a wide recieving area, meaning I'd have to be within a short - medium distance away from the scene?

Yeah, the vehicle repeaters are just meant to supplement the primary communications network (the trunking system I mentioned) in areas where there is poor coverage. Unless you have a pretty decent external antenna, like something on your roof, I wouldn't expect to hear the vehicle repeaters any more than maybe 3 or 4 km away.

Sorry, should have asked; what area of Halifax do you live?
Since you scanner has very limited choices within HRM.
It would help determine what options you may have for your Cobra.
For example if your in the Waverley area you could monitor East Hants Fire.
At least you'd get some use out of scanner.
