I was in Hall county today tooling around Oakwood and heard City of Gainsville Fire testing "Fire Tac 15" which was broadcast in the clear on statewide mutal aid 154.28. Is this a transition back to VHF for fireground operations of just a GEMA/FEMA mandate?

u41a420 - Now now, no one from your fine town has any friends in Hall County. By the way, enjoyed the training last Thursday.

ANYWAY, Fire Tac 15 is simply a patch to state mutual aid based off of their digital system. Channel 15 on the radios. It may be patched into the Motobridge that we have installed, but it's primary purpose is to put a 800 field radio in contact with a VHF field radio. It is essentially a mandate (but it also is a good idea and been used by many jurisdictions, like Cobb County and Henry County) for our interoperability. Jeff is correct.

Despite all of the talk and hype, many surrounding counties are not going 800 digital - Hallco knows this and is still keeping some investment in "older" analog systems so they can talk to surrounding counties and Georgia Forestry.
