Halloween: #1 Scanner Listening Night in NYC

Tonight is Halloween (2011), it is one of NYC's highest crime nights--if not "the" highest crime night. The police are out everywhere.

Also: I saw two cops with Motorola Sabers stationed in the subway, they had detective badges on their uniforms, so I figure they are on duty making overtime--but was the city short of radios--that's why they had old Sabers?.

I remember going down to the City one year for new years and I actually saw a Female Officer with one of the SSE5000's not bad looking radios. But it is possible that they still might have some sabers laying around, I remember in 2008 or 2009 I was down in the city and saw couple of guys from the one two carrying Sabers I's.

Quick question here about the 2nd picture. What is that box/tower thing with NYPD on the front used for?

Wow, I have never seen something like that before. That is pretty cool.

The NYPD has many of these towers, they pop them up for short or long term use. There is one watching the people at Occupy Wallstreet too. That one has been up for 6 weeks or more, this one in the photo will be gone by 10am no doubt.

In regard to he cops in the subway, they had what I thought were sabers, I carried one when I worked for the govt. before so I am familiar with them. Now because the cops in uniform were actually detectives working OT, i am sure they were just given those radios for their shift because the subway is VHF and above ground is UHF.
