The Council voted to upgrade the radios on Monday night, March 26. It is anticipated that the radios will be available for Police and Emergency services by mid to late April, which translates to the P25 conversion taken place within this time frame. The old analog radios may still be used by other city departments on an as needed basis, however.
Bear in mind that that the purchase of the P25 capable radios may be more related to the conversion of the Fort Worth/Tarrant County TRS system to P25, with possible expansion to include one or more of the current, existing, suburban systems in the Tarrant & adjoining regions. For instance, Tarrant & Johnson County, which is building a 700Mhz P25 system, will have inter-op connectivity when complete.
See
this thread, and more specifically, the pdf document linked in it (it's a one-post thread). The timeline for completion of the P25 system is on page 27 of the document, and is projected to be in 2014. Haltom City is one of the listed participants. Their new equipment, however, might give them the capability to use P25 conventionally on the inter-op channels, or perhaps to communicate with existing P25 users, such as Hurst, while still operating on the analog (for now) Fort Worth/Tarrant system.
