Hamfest - Testing available

There will be VE testing for licensing or upgrade at the hamfest. It's a good time and place to get started.

Hey everyone. I know that this is an old thread but thought I'd post anyway.

I was an extremely active ham in the 90's. I started the hamfest at the Nur Temple in New Castle and ran it for 4 years before it run by another club. What a lot of work!

Anyways, I've been inactive in ham radio for 5 years or so. I've been thinking about getting back (especially for HF) or selling my stuff on eBay. I recently rejoined ARRL to try and get the bug again but so far I'm not very motivated. We'll see.

Also, de784, I hope that you follow your interest in ham radio. It is a fun hobby. Many facets to explore.

Best,
Brian

Brian,

Still got your ticket? We need you to come back and start that hamfest again. It was a good one, and I miss it.

Hi Lee, Oh yeah....I still got the ticket. Good till 2013. I upgraded to General in 1993 and then renewed it in 2003.

I moved into a condo in 1999 and that took care of my HF activities...although I'm sure I could have been active in one form or another.

Just moved into a house in New Castle near Bear last year. No antenna restrictions but I don't want to put up anything too big. I operated HF mobile for a while with an Outbacker antenna with great results. I just bought a Sidekick antenna with the intention of installing it as a low profile base antenna. My rigs are all set up but the antenna is still in the box.

As far as the hamfest goes...sometimes I wish I stayed with it. The Penn-Del club picked it up from me when I was with AWARE....then I basically started to move away from the activities.

I'm sure I'll be back on the air...hopefully by winter time.

Brian,

You would have been a good person to talk to when we did the Sussex Tech hamfest in Georgetown. I started that 2 years ago and it was a really great time. We had people from all over the region come out. A lot of folks are interested in doing on in Wilmington but I really haven't thought about it yet.

If you are interested in getting back in, I can at least get you involved with some of the emergency communications stuff. We have a pretty active program here in the state.

If not, I can talk to our Section Manager about getting you involved.

Also if you need help getting antennas up or such, I'm sure I can get a group together to help.

Hi Justin. Thanks for the invite but at this point I'm going to have to pass on running a hamfest. My girlfriend already says that I volunteer too much. Also, my work schedule has changed considerable over the last 10 years. However, I'm more than happy to talk to anyone who needs advice/info.

We actually talked to the Georgetown club in the early 90's when we first ran the hamfest in New Castle. For some reason (I can't recall why) the hamfest was labeled as "The Delmarva Hamfest"....but that was only for the 1st year...then it became the A.W.A.R.E. Hamfest....then the Penn-Del hamfest.

One of my other hobbies is model aviation. I've been involved in model aviation since the early 80's. I'm very active with many clubs in the tri-state area and I run two large events here up north. Check out www.delawarerc.org for more info.

Best,
Brian
