Absolutely you can. The primary barrier to licensing is the desire to be licensed. You're 90% or the way there!

Best wishes on starting a lifetime of interesting learning and perhaps a career direction.

I started at 14. At 15 I had my Advanced license. And that required a 13 wpm morse test and taking the tests at the actual FCC government office under the disapproving eye of the civil servant who found the whole thing very annoying :)

Go for it!

I was a "ham" 25 years ago (when I was about 14 or 15), but it took me 20 years to take the test to get the license so the government could say I was a ham. Had I just taken the test 25 years ago, I would have been a government certified ham for the last 25 years.

Young Ham here (14), There aren't many in my area but there is a group of us on QRZ.COM Callsign Database As above mentioned Wanting to be liscenced is half the battle, the exam is not hard and it's even easier if you have amateurs in your family to support you.

You guys are at the age I was when I got interested in radio, I however waited until this week to go test. 16 years, I take procrastination to a whole other level! Do it HAM, or you will wake up some morning long from now and wonder what the heck happened!

A few years ago a girl in GA earned her Extra (/w 20 wpm cw) within months of her passing her novice. She was only 9 years old. At that time she was the youngest known extra class operator.

Of course you can take a ham test but there's no guarantee you'll pass. I suggest the Gordon West study manuals available from the W5YI Group W5YI : Resources for Amateur & Commercial Radio since they're about the simplest and most comprehensive around. When you feel you're ready to sit for the test find yourself a local club that sponsors VE sessions, it's all so simple even a cave man can do it even if the gecko may have other ideas. Go for it, we like fresh meat. (;->)
