• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Yes

Generally yes. Although the longer time goes by, the more likely, I suspect,
you will have to rely on a third party manufacturer for the packs.

when they discontinue ham radios do they still make batteries to go to them ???
Yes and no. While they may no longer make OEM battery packs, a number of after market products may be available.

Try a Google search for your battery model number. You should be able to find complete battery packs or replacement cells to fit. In fact, for a number of older style NiCad packs you can now find NiMh replacement cells.

For example the BC200/BC205 scanner hasn't been made for a long time but you can still find complete BP200 battery packs and rebuild kits for them.

Here's one source as an example.

Stock Uniden BP200 Battery $30.95
BP200 NiMH $52.95
NiCad BP 200/205 Battery Rebuild Kit $14.95
NiMH BP 200/205 Battery Rebuild Kit $27.95

You can get replacement battery packs for several amateur radio HT's from Batteries America. They'll carry packs for current and discontinued models alike. They also have chargers too. It's an asset to have them because when that 15 year old HT stops working because the battery died, and the dealer you bought the radio from no longer supplies parts you're screwed. But Batteries America has them!

What Ham Radios are dicontinuing. As far as I know have discontinued any radio.
He meant radios that are no longer manufactured. I personally own several. I have a Kenwood TH-26AT and a Kenwood TH-28A, both of which are totally discontinued, and I don't think anyone has parts for them. But batteries america still carries packs for those radios. Heck maybe even my TH-G71A is now discontinued. I need to get back into buying new gear and keep up. hehe..

I've got my eye on the Yaesu VX7R
