Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is anyone using BC296D on Hamilton Co. and getting good reception?

I get below average reception quality with a lower setting of 333. It seems to be very sensitive adjustment. If I use this setting and turn the squelch down I can receive with poor quality.

This is my first experience with digital scanning and any help would be great.

The BC296D is fantastic on everything else. I am sure it's probably operator trouble.

I have noticed that with the HAMCO C-QPSK system you have to be relativley close to a tower. I live about 15 to 20 miles from the closet tower(Colerain) and get garbled 25% of the time. If I drive to Colerain I can sit in the parking lot of the Northgate Mall and it works flawlessly. I can use the default setting and get good audio

Maybe because they simulcast on a bunch of towers the towers don't have to have a big audio output. At least, That's what I'm beginning to think. I'm going to get me a yagi and point it in the direction of Colerain and see if I get better reception.

I'm glad someone finally understands the point I'm trying to make with distance on these digital systems. I'm lucky because the tower I monitor is 1/2 mile away. I notice the audio issue when theres one or no strength signal bars.

My biggest problem was seeing the scanner stop on Valid ID's and nothing was being heard. I am in the Sharonville area and I can not hear at any setting unless I lock out any other banks that is not trunked and turn the squelch all the way down and adjust the audio quality. The first time I saw this I thought something was wrong with my scanner.

Not sure where the nearest tower is in the Sharon Rd Mosteller Road area but it must not be very close.

I am going to drive over to Clermont County real soon and try it out over there.

I can get a full 4 or 5 bars on my scanner at home, but still get garbled audio. When I drive to colerain, I can hear it fine with the same 4 or 5 bars. That's the part I don't get. Now, I can monitor an APCO 25 3600 system and the tower is exactly 44 miles away from me and it decodes the digital perfectly. Go Figure.

Try setting the control channel to FM instead of the default NFM.

I did this today and it seems to really help the audio.

This has helped many going all the way back to the BC 780.

I had garbled audio on full scale signals before.

It's time to stop making scanners that include everything and concentrate on digital

Scanners for aircraft, cb and all that other stuff can be had for ever for 50 bucks.

Good luck!

Right here...
I know that you guys are talking about Hamilton County OH, but just for information Hamilton County TN is going digital, so you might get some confusing discussions going on.
