I will be starting work for the City of Blue Ash late next month and I want to get a scanner to hear on their system.

I currently have the RS Pro-95 and love it but can't hear anything in Hamilton County. I feel since I'll be working for Blue Ash that I should at least be able to hear them. So what scanner is a good one to buy to listen to them? Is the Pro-96 any better than the Uniden 250? Or is there something else out there to buy?

Also, does anyone have a radio file they could just send me that has all the Hamilton County frequencies set up in a very nice manner?

The Pro-96 is hands down the BEST scanner for monitoring Hamilton County.
Our club (MONIX) has done many side by side comparisons with the Uniden BC296XLT and the Pro-96 is the way to go.

You can find weekly updated files for Hamilton County in the files sections of our Yahoo Group. which you will have to join to gain access.

You can also stop in the Radio Shack in Northgate Mall and they will clone your 96 with the weekly updates.

That's what I've been finding out. So that's good to hear that you've tested it and found out the 96 is the best to go with.

My next question is where is a good place to buy one that I can get the radio and the cable at? Is it best to just buy both at RS or is there somewhere that I can get a really good deal on them at? I bought my Pro-95 off of here a while back, but I highly doubt I'll find a RS Pro-96 on here. Plus with the 95 I only had to pay $100, so that wasn't too bad, but I fear sending someone $400 on here.

One last question about the Pro-96. How many banks does the Hamilty County system take up? Also, would it be hard to make it so all Blue Ash agencies are a priority? I just want to hear them first since that is who I will be working for.

I don't use the Radio Shack cable, so I am not sure about getting a deal on
them. I bought the Yaesu cable from RT systems which works with the 96
with an added stereo to mono adapter.

Right now Scannermaster has the best price on the Pro-96 if you feel like
going mail order and saving some money. Or Like I said in my original reply hit the Radio Shack at Northgate Mall,
they should have the cable for it and can clone it there on the spot.

You can find them on ebay for around $350 and the cable for around $15.

edit: For a new PRO-96 check the Announcements on strongsignals.net homepage.
