Sunday's (December 23, 2007) edition of the Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that Tri-Community VFD in Hamilton County has received a $166,761 grant from FEMA and plans to use part of the funds to 80 handheld radios. The article didn't specify any particulars but it might be safe to assume this purchase would be for 800 MHz radios.
Currently, Tri-Comm and Soddy-Daisy are the only remaining fire departments in Hamilton County not regularly operating on the countywide 800 MHz system - and Soddy Daisy has its own dispatcher, whereas Tri-Comm is dispatched by Hamilton County.
Tri-Comm plans to use the remainder of the funds to purchase saws and fans. Dallas Bay VFD also received a FEMA grant, they plan to use their funds to purchase bunker gear.
