Looking at this radio, anyone ever own one? It has the Q-multiplier for peaking a signal that is different than the crystal filter used with 150x and 180, not sure the difference.

I have one, although I have not used it in years.

This is an earlier receiver, say 1958-1959 time period, vs the HQ-180 which came out a bit later. The HQ-160 was kind of the general coverage version of the ham band only HQ-110. Think of the HQ-110 / HQ-160 relationship as similar to the HQ-170 / HQ-180. Or maybe think of the HQ-160 as an improved HQ-100A.

The -160 is a single / dual conversion receiver. Single conversion up to something like 10 MHz, and dual conversion above that. The HQ-180 is dual / triple conversion.

The HQ-180 is the better radio, but the HQ-160 is reasonably good if operating properly. I tend to think of the -160 as a similar level to the HQ-145. I think the -160 is less common than the -180.

T!

Never used an HQ-160 or HQ-180. I do have an HQ-129X from c. 1946. It's a great performer on medium wave (AM BC)

It has a crystal filter, and an "Antenna Compensator" for peaking a signal.

Great pick-up on the 180A. Enjoy it!
