A few months ago, when the new school bus freqs were posted, some expressed disappointment the FD did not have a better radio system.

I recently checked the FCC data page for Hampshire County, and found several "FX2" fixed relays. I put each into my scanner to see what I would pick up. I found I could the recieve the 2 nearest my location, mainly the FD relay.

I have listened to a few working house fires & a river rescue on the low powered repeater. Apparently, these relays repeat what it receives on the lower band fire (46.14) & EMS (154.4) channels. While I could pick up every base transmission, I could hear only some of the mobile traffic when it was happening on the other end of the county. When it was closer to the tower I listen to, I picked up everything.

These repeaters are low power, so there not going to be recieved over a large area.

The first 3 freqs are not in the RR database page yet:

Romney
453.425
453.625
460.6125

Capon Springs (SE part of county)
453.6875 - EMS relay
460.0625 - FD relay

Ridge (Transmitter in southern Morgan Co)
460.275 - FD relay
460.325 - EMS relay

400 Mhz Links

Steve,

The frequencies you found are simply a relay link between the tower site and the communications center. The radios utilize directional antennas pointing from tower to tower, so with line of sight you don't need high power.
