After exchanging e-mails and talking on the air, Jeremiah has sent me his HRSP files. I'm pleased to announce the I have activated the HRSP at a new site: www.geocities.com/scanseva :D (scan southeast Virginia; hrsp or any relevant variation /w hrsp in it was unavailable).

As of now, I have only uploaded the area cities and counties, state, bands the do not require a license & bands that require a license only at this time. These are the original files with minimal editing (replacing Jeremiah's e-mail address with mine where I've caught it).

As many of you know, there's a HUGE amount of info for this area. So much in fact that it is almost impossible for one person to to keep up with and handle, one who has more to life than a web site. Like Jeremiah, and Van (HRSP's founder) before him, I have a career (I'm a dedicated account trucker) and family life, so I can't spend much time posting updates from contributors. I need your help in keeping the HRSP going.

 For those of you in the past who have commented on lack of (or no) updates, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE! I'm looking for dedicated local scannists to help keep the pages updated by being a PAGE EDITOR. Page editors would be responsible for updating (a) specific page(s) on the site.

PM me here or drop me an e-mail at sdplatt@cox.net if you are interested in joining the HRSP team.

The Portsmouth page editor position has now been filled.
Mikext has graciously volunteered to handle that corner of the HRSP

Also, since he lives just across the creek in Suffolk, fmon will be the editor for Isle of Wight County.

Thanks Mike & again thanks to Frank! :D :D

Lynn, looking forward to hearing from you via e-mail.

I'll be on the road again for a few days; the next time I'll be able to check mail or assign pages to people may be on or around Monday 7/12/05.

I've uploaded most graphics for the pages today.

Fmon has updated the Suffolk page; great job!

Not much of a weekend for me; gotta run to DC/Baltimore area tonight.
Will try to get more pages up when I have time, hopefully Wednesday. If not, Friday & Saturday will be the days I'll be working on the rest of the site.

Note that the pages I'm uploading are NOT updated. This is why I need page editors to help. Pages without editors I will update when I get the chance.

until next time,

Steve

I have uploaded all files (I think) to the site. If there's anything missing please let me know.

Mikeext has taken on the Chesapeake page; LEH has the Newport News and Langley AFB pages. :D

Is there anyone who'd like to take on the Virginia Beach page (hint: I-16)?

I have all cities covered except for Virginia Beach.

Anyone interested in getting the world's largest resort city updated?
Might be a sizable task at first but once done only minimal maintenance required. If interested, drop a line at sdplatt@cox.net .

 Here are the page editors as of now:

kc4jgc(yours truly) - Norfolk
FMon - Suffolk
LEH- Newport News & Langley AFB
kg4rgn- Williamsburg, James City County & York County
Mikeext - Portsmouth & Chesapeake

I've updated the Norfolk page this morning, changing the remaining old type I talk groups to type II. Also deleted redundant & some useless info.
(Who cares what channel positions are on an FD portable? )

I've also inserted the link for amateur repeaters from the index page to my personal site at www.qsl.net/kc4jgc/repeaters.htm

Many thanks to Stro KO4FR for updating the Virginia Beach page.

Does anyone have a gif file (or can make one) showing the VBPD precincts and patrol zones?

It looks like those NIT/PMT codes are for TG's on the Norfolk System. Just program these into the Norfolk bank on your current trunking scanner with the appropriate alpha tag.

I found the digital and hex for Norfolk International Terminals (port authoity).
Does anyone know the freq?

NC, I realize you're new to the scanning activity; you seem to have conventional freqs and trunking systems comfused . I can understand how that can happen.

Following your other threads, you did not have a scanner capable of recieving 800 MHz, much less trunk tracker. Do you have a trunk tracker now? If you do and have entered the Norfolk system freqs (at least the control channels), all you need to do is to enter the talk groups in the appropriate place.

61488 1 Police ops
61456 2 Police ops
61584 3 Marine Incident Response Team (MIRT)

Hope that helps,

Thanks KC4JGC. It would be so much easier for new guys if they only had one number. I mean if it was: 853.48750 (example) and not all that tunnk stuff. I have a PRO-93 Duel tracking scanner one the way. It is still in the mail. I want to learn the "jargon" first. Thanks again and to firebox for his help.

Dealing with a 20-channel trunk which is shared by 100 or more talkgroups is certainly a daunting task. This is one reason why the PRO-96 and PRO-2096 come with as much information as possible preprogrammed in the radio. One thing that also helps a lot is to have computer software that shows you the entire contents of the radio and allows you to look at it and manipulate it.

When dealing with these trunked systems, first look for a list of frequencies. If it is a Motorola system (which is mostly what you're dealing with down there) you will only need to enter 'control channels'. On HRSP, these freqs have a "c" by them. On Radio Reference, they are colored red or blue. If nothing matches this description, then enter ALL listed frequencies.

Once you've done this, and set your scanner to recognize these frequencies as a trunked system, there are no more frequency concerns. If there are any difficulties getting it set up, just ask someone here.

Now that your trunk is set up, your concern is TALKGROUPS. These are the actual 'channels' in the radios and they can appear on any frequency. When someone in a certain talkgroup pushes their transmit button, the system assigns a frequency to them and all other members of that talkgroup are placed together on that same frequency.

Motorola talkgroups (TG's) appear on your radio as a 5-digit number through most of Hampton Roads. (only William & Mary retains the hyphenated numbers, I believe). Watch these 5-digit numbers, and ignore any frequencies that are displayed.

I could give you a lot of advice on the PRO-96, but am not familiar with the PRO-93 or its features/capabilities. If it provides for alpha tags, you can do much to decomplicate your radio. Alpha tags let you rename your frequencies and talkgroups to something you better understand. For example, I have programmed all my Richmond control channels appear onscreen as RICHMOND, and talkgroup 32848 appears as "RPD-1 EAST". Talkgroup 34624 has been tagged to appear as "RFD DISP".

Computer software is very helpful for both accomplishing and understanding this. Don Starr's programs are particularly user-friendly, and may allow you to program your radio directly from this website.

Also read the intro section of Police Call, and articles on this BB to help you understand trunking. You might also check Yahoo to see if there is a PRO-93 group. That would give you a lot of contact with PRO-93 users, plus various links and downloads. In the PRO-96 group we share a lot of local files that can be programed directly in the radio with Win96. You might have similar luck in a PRO-93 group.

Good luck. One you get the hang of it, you're going to have a lot of fun.
