This has happened to me again on my last trip. It seems that if I bring more than 1 portable with me (1 digital portable for listening to the DMR repeater, and my FT2DR for the analog 147.3 machine) I get stopped by security and asked why I have my radios. The local sheriff's don't seem to have an issue with them. Then again it all depends who you get. I also got a shtick about ham interfereing with local public safety. (PS is on 800 TRS.) And yes I know it's private property but I don't think I'm hurting anyone having my radios, and there is nothing on the website that says radios aren't permitted.

Funny, I went to Disney in June 2018 for a conference put on by our CAD vendor. I brought a freaking mobile office consisting of two laptops, hot spots, an APX8000, a KNG-P2800, and my personal APX7000 U1/7/8. Other than the ham bands being completely devoid of activity during the week I was there, Disney never blinked an eye. They did request to search the room (which is their SOP) but they didn't seem to care. I carried either the KNG-P800 or APX7000 the entire time I was there. Now, granted, I was in uniform and had my event credentials and ID on, but I did venture off into Disney Springs "dressed down" and never had anyone ask me anything. Was kind of surprised actually.

Weird. I got stopped for just having my two radios. I also have my tac-pack which I bring with me everywhere with seemingly no issue. I don't think it was the tac pac this time though. They thought my VXD-720 would interfere with public safety (It's programmed for 440 ham) and I sat and rolled my eyes at that one. C'mon Disney, you should know by now there will be ham ops with radios at the parks.. I went thru Hollywood Studios with no problems talking with my ham dad on simplex, no one batted an eye. But the Disney springs guys seem to take notice more than the parks guys.

wont be long before you wont be able to scan Disney. behind scenes talk, they are going WAVE (PRIVATE NETWORK) Dropping the Radio One DMR TRS.
Oh my..... I know somebody who retired(from two-way) off the commissions from that sale. That didn't take long. Maybe a bunch of MTR3Ks will show up at an auction in the area.....

Disney is private property and can do what they want. A friend of mine was there with his family and was in Disney Springs. He was off-duty (works for a neighboring County SO in FL) and was carrying CONCEALED in Disney Springs (which anyone can walk in to). A Disney Security employee walked up to him and asked him if he was a law enforcement officer. He said “yes, why?” He then asked if he was carrying a firearm to which he replied yes as well. The Security Guard politely explained that Disney Springs (although open) is private property and firearms are not permitted. He offered to escort him to their security office to lock it up or he could secure it in his vehicle in the parking lot. He also asked if someone had complained or if he was printing in some way and the security guard said no, you just looked like LE. After a uniform deputy verified his credentials, he (the Deputy) walked him to the parking lot to “secure it in his vehicle” ...as far as Disney knew.

Me personally, Disney is a target for terrorism, mass shootings, etc....large groups of people in a concentrated area. If anyone can walk in, you think I’m going to lock up MY gun...hell no. And if they ever asked me, I’d take my business elsewhere. Now in the parks where they screen EVERYONE and they have Deputies at the entry and exit points, fine I’ll lock it up knowing everyone has gone through screening and they have a front line of defense. But Disney Springs....yeah make the cop lock up but any a-hole can walk in packing.

My point is...conceal it better, take your business elsewhere or just smile and agree to do what they tell you.

Which means, the gun was NOT "secured" at all. Depending on what Disney had to secure the weapon (gun locker with key to cop) I would have went with that. Leaving it in the car is just one step short of leaving it laying in the street.

In a related story.....

A retired cop was wearing some type of "buff" shirt at Universal Studios, with "Police" prominently displayed, along with the word "Retired." Universal security asked him to change the shirt or leave (and rightfully so).

It's their house and, no doubt, someplace terrorist have looked at or are looking at, so you gotta play by their rules......

Before this turns into a gun debate let me say right now to stop it. I'm sure plenty of gun websites exist to do just that.

No need to reply to this post either.

I took a UHF XPR7550 into Hollywood Studios one time a few years ago. The security guard, who was rather young, freaked out claiming that I had one of their radios. Fortunately there was an older guard nearby that came over and told him it was OK.
