HamSphere was what got me hooked and made me start the path to get my Tech license. It may just be a simulator, but it is nice for what it does. Not as cool as real ham, but still very cool.

Yes I would say the same. I have talked to hams from England, Chicago, Trinadad and one other I dont remember off hand. I have there QSL cards though all were licenced hams in there areas. One the one from england it was the only way now that he was able to talk to others due to him living in a small fishing villege where he fishes for crab and lobster as there is also antenna restrictions and the houses on practically on top of one another. I still think its a very cool thing to have. As you can also use your iphone or andriod phone to talk as well just not as clear as your computer.

Why does it ruin amateur radio? For me it was what drew me into Ham Radio and pushed me to get my license. It allowed me to get a taste of what Ham radio was all about and want more of the real thing. Granted, if the internet were to go down for some reason, it wouldn't work.
