Just an FYI to those of you live in/around Hancock/Brooke/Ohio Counties and monitor various traffic - It appears that somebody (likely Lauttaumus) is using some of their paging spectrum for various other activity now.

152.03 CTCSS/PL 107.2 -- Hancock Co Sheriff (same traffic as 155.64)
152.12 CTCSS/PL 74.4 -- Unknown company
152.15 Heard something on it today but didn't get a chance to note it

158.49 CTCSS/PL 210.7 - Some sort of Fire/EMS Dispatch
158.61 CTCSS/PL 146.2 - a trash hauler (was at "Dixon" and at Wheeling Island Racetrack)

I believe all of these to be in the Hancock/Brooke vicinity given that I was getting full signal strength via my scanner's telescopic antenna in the basement over here in Jefferson Co Ohio.

So those of you who can, and who are so inclined, should do some scanning of 152-153 Mhz and 158-159 Mhz when you have some free time and report what you find out.

NOTE: You'll find a lot of paging traffic especially in the 152 Mhz range that you'll have to lock out. But amidst the actually paging frequencies you'll find various businesses.

NOTE 2: Also - you may find various companies between 454-455 Mhz (more paging spectrum)

454.05 LTR Taxi Cab Company in Chester/Newell/E Liverpool area

158.49 CTCSS/PL 210.7 - Weirton Fire Dept

Heard a dispatch this morning for them to be first responder at the request of WAARS. They were dispatched to Ardmore Ave. The unit dispatched was "Tower 2". They went back to station a few minutes later.

I did not pay any attention to see if this same traffic was simulcasted on other known Weirton FD frequencies. It may or may not have been.

That is a repeater output. I do not know the input. When Tower 2 would key up I would hear them weaker for a brief moment and then the would come in at the same strength as dispatch.

Just heard another page on 158.49 for Fire District 2 to Selitti Ln, Weirton. Tower 2 was responding again.

Hi Mike

We had a fire in the Tin Mill the other night about 1:00 AM and they called Weirton Fire. Turns out it was some rags smoldering. But they sent 4 trucks. It was right in my area and I had Weirton Fire on the scanner but didnt hear anything. I put it on close call and these 2 freqs came up and were being used by Weirton Fire. 158.49 and 153.77

Hmm. 153.77 is the input for the 154.145 repeater. Are you saying that during that time you _never_ heard traffic on 154.145 but your close call was bringing up 158.49 and 153.77 ?

Do you know if 153.77 traffic was the same as what was being heard on 158.49? And do you know if anything was happening on 154.145 when 153.77 was active?

It's certainly possible that they are using 158.49 as an output with 153.77 as the input now - but perhaps 158.49 is just a simulcast of traffic heard on 154.145? I know, you said you were hearing nothing on 154.145.

Sounds like this may be the situation:

158.49 out / 153.77 in PL 210.7 Weirton FD

Is that what you figure too?

Mike

PS: Hope you are enjoying the holidays Russ!

A call went out now on 154.145 PL 107.2 and was simulcast on 158.49 PL 210.0. The input to 154.145 is still 153.77.

It appears that for whatever reason 154.145 traffic is being simulcast on 158.49, just like Lauttamus (I think) is doing with Hancock Co PD on 155.64 simulcast on 152.03.

Mike

PS: I wonder if Lauttaumus has some requirement to keep _something_ operating on his paging spectrum and is just simulcasting co traffic for ****zngiggles.

I thought the 145 MHZ band was for har radios? I did not know that a fire company could use it for paging

I just heard a guy at one of th estations talking with what sounded like a chief out in a vehicle - and they were complaining about having a lot of problems with audio cutting out (which I also heard) and they were saying that Lauttaumus was working on it but hadn't found a problem yet. They were indicating that they needed to get Lauttaumus to get it fixed.

I haven't figured out what Lauttaumus is up to with what they are doing - but they are using all of their VHF paging spectrum for businesses and public safety (which I think is allowed now) - but they are doing a lot of simulcasting of other stuff onto those frequencies and I'd be interested in knowing why.

thank you to who ever found 158.490. this would be the new weirton fire TX frequency that was so hush hush nobody could have it without chief lashorn's consent. thank you thank you thank you..... that's one off my christmas list.....158.490 is taking place of the 153.770 frequency. if you still hear traffic on that channel its probably because not all radio have been brought up to date. now does anyone know where new cumberland ems ran off too??? noone seems to know jack ****. if someone has a clue please do share with the rest of the class, it would only make sense if they stayed on vhf so they can communicate with waars, but then again we are talking about wv... hancock county

Currently, the same output that you hear on 154.145 can be heard on 158.490. I don't know if 153.77 is still an input to 154.145 or if 153.77 is an input to 158.490 repeater now. But 158.490 is definitely a repeater output. So, at least at this time, I don't think 158.490 (a repeater output) is taking place of 153.77 (a repeater input). I'm unsure of what would be taking the place of 153.77. Maybe they are still in a configuration/testing phase - who knows - because there are problems on 158.49 with audio dropping out.

Other frequencies I have logged recently are:

152.03 PL 107.2 Hancock Co S.O.
- (repeater output / simulcast of what you hear on 155.640)

152.12 PL 74.4 Unknown - barge company? Oil refinery?
- somewhat plain talkers - no conformity - some swearing
- talked about water levels, being near the river and/or barges

152.15 Unknown
- hear something on it but was unsure who

158.61 PL 146.2 Some trash hauler
- working in Brooke/Ohio Cos, not sure about Hancock

454.05 LTR LCN2, 1-02-006 - some taxi company in chester/newell or e liverpool

454.25 PL 88.5 some local business

454.55 PL 107.2 unknown
- possibly plumbers or something - talked about going down beach bottom
- talked about drains, traps, sinks

454.575 PL 82.5 unknown transport company
- talked about the 'arena' and wheelchair access on different occasions

460.575 PL 127.3 Weirton Transit?
- somebody said this was an old FD freq re-appropriated for Weirton Transit

463.1125 PL 186.2 supposedly Lifeteam EMS
- I did hear somebody transporting on here recently

463.3125 DC 371 - Ohio American Energy (coal hauling, strip mines, etc)

The 152.xxx and 158.xxx and 454.xxx frequencies are all believed to be active in Hancock co due to them lkely being all operated by Lauttaumus and all of them having such song signal strength with attenuator on and stock antenna - monitoring from right across the river in toronto (on the hill).

the 460.575.. yes that is definately weirton transit. when i belonged to weirton cove co 2 vfd, that was our tac ch 10 or private, one of our members (whom also worked for the bus co) thought it would be a bright idea for them to use are frequency for daylight hours operations. they soon just took it over but it origanly was a weirton vfd fire frequency. and the above 454.250 that is brooke co fire dispatch. 454 is the north repeater and 459 is the south repeater

i see where I errored on 454.25 - I have some notes where I just list the freq - I already have the scanner actually programmed for the N/S PLs for the fire - my notes just didn't jive. Thanks for the correction.

At any rate, as you can see, there are a lot of freqs in the paging spectrum (the 454 / 152 / 158) that are being used in the upper ohio valley (mainly hancock/brooke). So good places to scan for other interesting frequencies, especially if you know that Lauttaumus is the radio service for that agency, is 152-153 mhz, 157-159 mhz (or thereabout) and 454 - 455 mhz. Of course, as you scan you'll find a lot of paging activity mixed in between that you would just have to lock out inyour search. but I imagine more comms will be found as I continue to scan those freqs.

PS: We need a place where us Jefferson/Columbiana/Harrison/Belmont and Hancock/Brooke/Ohio Co people can discuss about any frequencies we listen to and have a database of _active_ frequencies in our area. A lot of frequencies are interesting but will never be listed on RR since they don't just list everything.

I'd like to see a comprehensive list of known _active_ frequencies in use in our specific area - whether it be on this site, the RR Wiki (problematic because either one person would have to maintain and the rest submit in private, or have man people maintain - and i'm not sure many would), or onanohter site (like ovscan.com or something else somebody creates - of course ovscan.com has nothing of the sort on it right now - just an example).

Any comprehensive list for this area that could possibly be found (and there is none) would be out of date to say the least.

RRDB shows Brooke EMS on 155.265 PL 156.7.

However, in my monitoring I've been listening to Brooke dispatch talking to mobiles (and mobiles talking back) on 155.265 PL 82.5 .

Your mileage may vary, but from my listening if I wanted to listen to 155.265 (which needs to be PL'd since I pick up so many other services using this frequency), I have to use PL 82.5 to listen to just Brooke... 156.7 doesn't get the job done.

Can anybody else confirm?

I believe you. But I did hear Brooke on 155.265 PL 82.5 talking to their ambulances (703 / 704 - sometimes they just said 03 / 04) - They were requested by Hooverson Heights to be the first responders to some location (I forget where) and Brooke base was communicating with the mobiles about it. I'm specifically referring to activity on 155.265 PL 82.5. The RRDB lists their PL on 155.265 to be 156.7.

Well, I didn't mean ovscan as it is now - Sure it's just referencing RRDB info. It's not like I couldn't put something more on it. But, I'm not going to post my list of what frequencies I _know_ to be active in the region for everyone else if nobody else is going to give any input rofl. Instead I'll just reference information that everyone else has already done - and we'll all be left somewhat in the dark. The idea was to _share_ information, specifically information that RRDB doesn't carry (because some of us like listening to a silly business freq and certainly RR doesn't want to list every one of those). Figured if people were interested enough, I could put something up that could help achieve some sharing of pertinent data across the band - not just police/fire/ems.

And, of course, I just meant that it could be another website - I wouldnt' care if it was ovscan or something else - as long as it wasn't full of useless ads (like free web services provide - geocities, etc).

If you'd rather not participate, no need. But I think I can be a little more creative than most people listening in the upper ohio valley when it comes to websites - If that weren't true, then somebody else would have a website up with all of the information I'm proposing we get together and share.

Don't knock it - just don't use it, don't participate, don't share. not a prob. Maybe Police/Fire/EMS is the only thing you like to listen to - and if so, any such collaboration I'm referring to would be of no interest to you.
