Hancock County Public Safety Trunking System, Kiln, Mississippi - Scanner Frequencies

Just discovered the STA that this system was built on has expired and they are operating on a new STA that expires in February. Some of the new freqs. in the current STA are in the new NPSPAC band. Being a digital system hopefully this won't affect TOO many people though.(BC250D & BC785D) Being another STA things are subject to change again when they get a permanent license for the system.

Anywho, if anyone over that way that can run Pro96com on this system and report back it would be greatly appreciated. I'll get over there myself one day, but in the meantime it would be great to have something sooner if possible. :)

I can probably take care of this one. I'll install it on my notebook and drive up to the top of the parking garage of the IP casino and I'll be able to get a full signal from the hancock county TRS with ease. Will try to do this tonight on the way to work if nothing doesn't change with my schedule.

I'm having a problem getting Pro96com to read my scanner. I'm not sure if its the serial-usb adapter that is giving me the issue, or if something isn't communicating. I'm trying to connect my BC996T to it and it won't detect or retrieve data.

Not sure what to do about this. Also I noticed that 851.11250 is the current CC for Hancock County as of this morning when I was listening to it on top of the IP Casino parking garage.

Ok correct me if I'm wrong but the only way to use a 996T with pro96com would be with a discriminator tap?

Maybe you meant a 996XT though? Which would be the only way to use the serial data cable. Of course I reserve the right to be totally wrong not being at all familiar with exactly what you are working with.

851.11250 MHz is one the new freqs. in the new STA. Thanks for that info and I'll update the DB entry accordingly.

The current STA expires in February so anything we find today is subject to change again then. The next weekend that the weather isn't totally horrible I'll head over that way and log it. No problem.

I was just looking at some of the conventional data in Hancock Co. that seems to have fallen behind the times too that is going to need some work too. I'll post about that a little later in this same thread.

As always your efforts are greatly appreciated nexus. Anything I can help you with don't hesitate to ask.

Ok next project for anyone who is capable. I need some help confirming any VHF conventional stuff still in service in Hancock Co. I was checking the licenses attached to DB entries and many are expired. I've found active licenses for most stuff so far and changed them accordingly but there are still a few discrepencies.

Bay Saint Louis, City of
Both PD and FD licenses were expired many years ago and I have located new licenses for both departments but some of the old freqs are not on the new licenses. There is however new freqs on the new licenses that aren't in the DB.

License WQDR814 (BSL FD)
150.805 is a mobile freq. entered in the DB as both the input freq. for the 154.295 repeater and the fireground freq. Is this information accurate?
154.070 and 158.895 are both mobile freqs. that are not in the DB. Are they in use and if so for what purpose?

License WQIC613
This WAS a new license for the frequency 159.1950, designated in the DB as "Building Inspectors ("Code Enforcement")". This license was auto-terminated last year by the FCC due to lack of build out of a system for the frequency. Is this freq. still in use in any capacity?

License WQCK693 (BSL PD)
This is the up to date license for BSL PD. No real discrepencies here other than confirming it is still in use or capable of being used if the need arises.

Also any squelch tones for any of the Hancock/BSL/Waveland entries and any information in general would be greatly appreciated too. I know things are in type of fluid state over that way with a new the county wide TRS coming online and the loss of infrastucture due to Katrina so I feel this area is prime for a full makeover so to speak. hehe.

I installed it without any research at all. I just selected 996T from the list and went with it. I did read through the manual a little bit but didn't see anything about using a tap. Although if that is the case then I'm not going to be able to help with this at all. I don't plan on opening up my BC996T or BC396T to add one for this.

I'll suggest if you have the time, instead of driving all the way to hancock county, just drive to the IP and go up to the very top of their parking garage, it's 9 stories high and completely open (no roof) at the top. It'll give you a very good reception reference. I've worked repeaters in Pensacola, and north of Hattiesburg from there on 5 watts. I can get Hancock fairly easy from there.

just fyi, I use to scan both BSL and Waveland PD's frequencies while mobile all the time and their vhf freqs have been inactive ever since Katrina when the portable 800mhz stuff moved in. I never bothered listening to anything else though.

Hehe I understand and it's no big deal at all, at least we know now. :)

Looks like Fri./Sat. is going to be a good couple of days this weekend for an outing if the forecast holds true until then, so I'll probably make a run over that way then and log some stuff.

I pretty much figured as much for the VHF stuff, but always good to have confirmation. Being most all of the licenses are active the info will remain until someone can prove without a doubt that all VHF gear is forever gone.

Marine Spill Response Company

Just discovered this evening that MSRC has a C-130 permanently stationed at Stennis International and a 2nd 130 has been brought on site in response to the oil rig disaster in the Gulf. They are also using a King Air for spotting during their oil dispersement dispensing missions. Together they are flying 9 missions a day.

It would be nice to have some feedback from anyone who is able to monitor and cofirm any information on their comms. They operate on all the usual maritime modes of course and also have an IG license (WNYA617) for the following freqs.

122.850 AM Flight Ops
150.980 FM
150.9875 NFM
152.270 FM
152.300 FM
152.330 FM
152.360 FM
152.390 FM
152.390 FM
152.420 FM
154.585 FM
158.445 FM
159.480 FM
159.4875 NFM
454.000 FM
459.000 FM

This article provides some insight into some other companies that are in the same type of business as well.

Obviously there is nary a soul on here from Hancock County, or at least not any of a sharing or helpful nature, but here's what I found in my outing over that way yesterday.

Waveland PD VHF 158.790 364 DPL
BSL PD1 VHF 154.100 136.5 PL
BSL FD1 VHF 154.295 203.5 PL

are all still in use...

Not that I'm aware of.

It would be so awesome to have a feed from there though. There's plenty of stuff to be heard over that way, Stennis, the new county TRS, MSWIN, LWIN, and as I found above a good bit of VHF still in use too.

If only I knew someone who lived over there. I have plenty of computers and scanners to setup a feed. It's just too far away for me to pick up from here. I personally think there isn't anyone on here who lives in or near hancock county. Even ham radio is very poorly represented over there.

Same here. If only there was someone that could donate a small amount of space, with power and a reliable internet connection. Other than knowing someone that would let you put it in their house, are there any other options for hosting such a thing at little to no cost?

there aren't any locally owned ISP's down here anymore. I was employed by one before they closed up shop and moved the operation to texas. The best option is to either have someone with a yagi up high enough to pick up the sites or someone who lives over there willing to let a small 16k audio stream push to rr's feed server.
