Now that the Wilkenson tower is online does anyone know when or if Hancock County will use the state 800 system?

Now that the Wilkenson tower is online does anyone know when or if Hancock County will use the state 800 system?

I talked to an EMT in Wilkenson and he told me that that dept has no plans of moving to Safe-T because the cost of radios for the smaller depts is so great.

Hancock County Emergency Operations Center will switching to the 800 MHz system sometime in early 2010. The initial phase will be law enforcement agencies and the fire departments will switch once enough radios are purchased.

I heard radio traffic today on 800 that they were planning to start using the 800 system for law enforcement on Jan 1st.

The Wilkinson site isn't up and runnin yet, they just installed the antenna's the other day and the T2 lines won't be in until the 25th according to ISPC traffic. I was past the site the other day and there is still a lot of work to be done before it goes online.

It's still silent, odd setup though as it is two towers, one has microwave and nothing is on it yet except a few small antenna's. Still appears there is a lot to do there before any signal goes out from there.

Heard the techs go out at the Warren site a little bit ago, so they are there today..I think some site equipment rebanding is occurring in my area, lots of tech traffic down here this week.

I highly doubt they will have Wilkinson site up March 1st, they still dont have the microwave setup at the site and the testing they did the other night was simply to verify the generator would kick on

small update: The site has been up over 24 hrs now in wide astro, however no use has been noted.

Does anyone have any update on the Wilkinson tower and when it might go online? I have a straight shot at it and am anxious for it to come online...

The site is up. However, as Viper43 posted they are still in the process of putting up antennas and microwave equipment. I listened this morning and heard Henry County Dispatch...broken at times. Hancock County is still hoping to change to 800 sometime this spring...as far as I know they have not set a cutover date.
