What options do you use for your handheld scanners? I have a Uniden 396T so I am going by that.

1. Do you use the lanyard?

2. Do you use a nylon protective case?

3. Do you use the belt clip?

4. If late at night or at a place where you don't want to disturb anyone do you use a earpiece? If so which brand and model and where did you buy it?

I have a 396 and I occasionally use the belt clip. Primarily when I am out at events. I have never used the lanyard nor a case. I have covered the screen with a plastic screen protector (like you put over a PDA screen).

Depending on how you scan, the case may or may not be a good thing. I have had problems in the past with cases and accessing the buttons and the volume is a bit muted.

Most of the time the 396 is used in the car and it sits in a cup holder (when not occupied by cups) or in my lap.

The first thing I check is if the new radio, or what I would be using as the primary radio is compatible (do the screw holes line up) to my metal spring loaded radio belt clip.

I often use my Bianchi police radio holster that my uncle gave me. I have other protective cases but the Bianchi is so nice. It has an adjustable bungee like strap that goes over the radio and snaps shut. The holster material is not flimsy it's molded in a radio shape which protects the radio better cause it's thick and strong. When you sit you can tilt the holster or quickly take it right of by turning the holster upside down and pulling it up off of the belt clip piece, theres 2 pieces belt clip and holster.

I did not like the lanyard that came with my VX7R, so I replaced it with a nice lanyard from a L.E.D. flashlight I had.

I have a pair of UNIDEN 250D's and I keep it in the case/s that came with them. I never use a belt clip. I only use ear phones at loud events otherwise I'll just hold it up to my ear or use a cheapy little thing. I also use a sound feeder when I take it in the car. The only problem with that is when the frequency is in use in the area I am driving.

scanner...

I use a pillow speaker in bed at night. I have a few handhelds but tend to use my pro-94 in bed as atleast for me it's the easiest to use in the dark. I memorized the keypad and do a lot of searches...especially when skip conditions increase. I can't remember the brand of pillow speaker I have. I threw the box and paperwork for it away and the speaker itself doesn't have the brand name listed on it.

I use an ear plug at all times when I'm out in public, less people tend to notice the scanner that way. Especially since I keep it innside a jacket or covered by the shirt I'm wearing, it saves explainations to the paranoid. No to the case, yes to the belt clip, and I use an ear phone from rs.

I follow the same procedure but use iPod earbuds. Nobody questions the little white earbuds anymore as more than an iPod; and they're cheap as hell.

As far as carrying the scanner, belt clip only when mobile. Very cautious of my scanner and haven't had any "accidents" yet (knock on wood). While in the car it's in an Arkon floor mount.
