Over the past few days every now and then I have had a major squelch tail on Newark's Tower frequency--118.300. It seems after the transmission the squelch continues to break on the BCT-15until i press SCAN. I have other airports in there, Kennedy and La Gaurdia, along with some other frequencies and they are fine. Even the Newark frequency doesn't hang up all the time, just most times. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe something local is throwing AM interference on 118.300? Air band is very susceptible to RFI, being AM.

Are you talking about a squelch tail or an open carrier? Do you hear a slight heterodyne on weak transmissions? The tail is the delay interval between the carrier drop and the receiver's squelch closing, purely an internal function. The timing is usually affected by the squelch setting, barely squelched gives a longer tail than when the control is advanced. In any case I suggest tightening it up a bit, as long as you hear what you want it's better than sitting on the threshold being held open on random noise.
