Hanover County New Radio System Update

By November we will definitely know whats going to happen. But I was told today it will definitely be on a P25 system and interoperable with the Rich/Hen/Ches. System. The Rich/Hen/Ches. system is maxxed out and Hanover will not be joining into that system. The only way that could happen is the smartzone system now in use by those 3 jurisdictions would have to be upgraded to a smartzone 4. Hanovers system will be monitorable and will possibly have the tac channels encrypted like Henrico. Hanover has one encryption channel now but is never or rarely used due to the fact not all portables have the channel or capability.

Let's hope they don't try to cover a 512 square mile county with 4 towers like they do now. Jim

well if they had got the 6 towers that was proposed originally I don't think they would be having this problem. I think they ought to get the other two towers and they should be done for a while. But hey , I'm just a taxpayer. "Don't ask them (us taxpayers) for any advise but get their money would ya'!

The Six towers would have helped. I have been listening to this system since it was installed. It has never performed that well unless you are near a tower. In the past several years, this system appears to have been held together with duct tape. Certain frequencies on each site are weaker than others, making for some interesting conversations when traffic has to be repeated due to inability to copy. I read that this new system will be paid for with bonds and will be on the ballot. I wonder what will happen if the referendum is voted down?????

What if the voters turn it down?

The present EDACS system was on a referendum which was soundly rejected by the voters. Yet here it is, along with several new firehouses that were rejected at the same time.

well they are hoping it's not gonna happen this time but we'll see.
