• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Of course. Just don't use the cigarette lighter plug, cut it off and connect the wires directly to the vehicle battery. If they won't reach, get some more wire of the same (or larger) gauge and splice it together. Be sure to put a fuse in line on the positive lead at the battery.

WHOA!! SLOW YOUR ROLL!!! The car battery operates on 12V, the 97 uses a 9V supply. You would have to make sure you have something in line that would convert the 12V to 9V or you're gonna fry your radio. I believe there is circuit protection in the scanner but I wouldn't trust it.

Right SJ; when he said cigarette lighter adapter, I was thinking of a mobile scanner. The PRO-97 doesn't come with a cigarette lighter adapter. But the mobile version of the PRO-97 (PRO-2055) can be hooked directly to the battery. PRO-97, don't do that. I stand corrected.

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The CB runs on 12-15vdc. The scanner can only take 9vdc or just a tiny bit more or less.

Here's an idea, you can buy this or go to a big box and buy the parts.

You will still need a 12v down to 9v converter (adapter)

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but why bother with the hassle of hard-wiring it. The ciglighter/power port on your vehicle is more than likely shielded from the electronic interference associated with the cars electrical system/alternator where attempting to wire it off the battery directly could potentially cause problems without a filter on it, plus a fuse to ensure your radio doesn't melt in your hand.

My suggestion, if power outlets are a concern, go to wal mart and buy a tri port adapter for your ciglighter. You then have plenty of ports to hook up your mobile goodies, and it will only run you about 10-12 bucks and 0%frustration. If outlets aren't your concern, you can buy the mobile adapter with selectable voltage output for about 10 bucks from wal mart as well. Either one would seem to make your life much easier.

Good luck, and dont put too much juice into that scanner.

connect wires to the adapter plug and then tape it all up and connect those to the back wire leads of the lighter socket. Ive seen it work for sirius radio's.

I've disassembled standard cigarette lighter adapters before and wired those directly to a switched +12v source..
