To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is there a product someone can point me to that would allow me to hardwire the Unication Amplified Charger into my car (or at the very least a compatible cigarette adapter)? I can't just discard the AC adapter portion of the included cord and plug the wires into the fuse block, can I? Feeling dumb, but can't find anything specific. Thanks!

From the G5 amplified charger manual. You should be able to diect wire with a 1.5 amp inline fuse.

Can't you use a USB adapter that goes in the power socket / lighter and just plug in the USB cable hooked directly into the G5? Or there is always an inverter.

Yes, but that won't power the Ammplifier/Charger. I need the amplifier for volume in vehicle. Inverter is a little overkill/overpriced for what I'm looking for. But thanks!

It has been mentioned before, but wouldn't it be nice if the Bluetooth connection would connect to the sound system in a vehicle?

As far as the Amplified base? I had one. I wasn't impressed at all. The speaker was horrible. For the price I thought it was toy like. Especially compared to the quality of the pager itself. A real rugged quality product. My G5 sounded better by itself.

But hey they want an incredible amount of money for a USB cable as well. Even though my 5.00 smart phone cable works fine.

For $5.98, I would simply buy a power inverter, but to each his own.

I’ve never seen such a cheap inverter. I’m sure you’d get what you pay for. I guess I’m just used to looking for higher quality gear.
Edit: scratch my above comment. I guess I’ve always been looking for inverters with higher wattage for other things I have. Getting something with lower wattage to handle just this amp is actually more affordable than I originally assumed. Thanks for setting me straight!

Unication charger/amplifier

The unit operates on 12 VDC, I have successfully used one in my car with a 12 volt power cord.

Why go from 12 VDC to 110/120 VAC just to go back to 12 VDC?

I had one about a year ago for inside. To be honest I had no idea it was DC.

But as I already stated.........In my opinion the speaker is no better than what the G5 sounds like by itself. But then that is only my opinion. For big bucks i expected better.

You could put a connector in the cable, which would allow you to use either the AC adapter, or other 12VDC source.

As finicky as the G5 contacts with the amplified charger seem to be, I’m wondering if the perturbations of road travel would disrupt the operation?

It seems frequently that I have to re-seat due to these issues on a desktop - even with well-cleaned contact points.

BTW, I do use 12v from my solar/battery power distribution array using Anderson PowerPoles in the radiolab for the amplified charger on the work bench. Both of the amplified chargers suffer from the aberrant contact issues.

I’m not overly impressed with the amp speaker, but mine gets definitely louder than the G4 speaker. Plus I’d rather blow the amp speaker than my G4. However, I’m actually hoping to use the audio out cable jack to plug into my car audio instead of the amp speaker.
