BCD325P2/BCD996P2: Hardwire Uniden BCD996P2 DC Vehicle Power Cord Issue

I want to hardwire my BCD996P2 scanner in my vehicle.
Is there a trick to getting this 3 wire DC wire kit to work? I hooked up the red and black and no power to the scanner. Do i have to hook the orange wire up to get this to work or switch something in/on the 996p2 top get it to power on? The user manual says to hook the orange wire to the headlight switch to change the display color etc. what if I don’t want the display colors to change by wiring it this way?

Wiring works just fine had it powering on my older Uniden mobile so i know its not a wiring issue.

Check the fuse.

I don't think you need to connect the orange wire unless you want the auto dimmer to work.
