To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is it possible to program a Harris P25 phase 1 trunked system on a Motorola radio?

I have no trouble with Motorola 3600 baud analog type II, Motorola P25 phase 1 systems on an XTS2500. but on a Harris P25 phase 1 system, the radio won't unmute. If I program the voice channels in conventional mode with the proper NAC, I can hear digital audio. Programmed as trunking, nada. Is it a setting somewhere?

If I remember correctly, the issue will be "Intra-WACN Roaming" will need to be checked...which will take a WACN ASK.

You may have other issues as well, but I'm pretty sure this will need to be checked.

mine works fine with out checking the Intra-WACN Roaming box if hes trying to monitor that system with out using Non-Affiliation the radio will NOT unmute to monitor with out a LEGAL radio ID.

And to note, not all Harris systems need this to be checked, only ones that use a oddball NAC for the VC.

I have several local Harris systems, all work just fine on Moto gear. Never had to mess with the Intra-WACN and the RID is not relevant (because the radio won't be affiliating with the system... RIGHT?). The only issue I have around here is that the Harris systems typically use a non-standard base frequency which needs to be accounted for in the Astro25 Channel ID tab.

APX or XTS/L?

Sorry, I should have clarified. XTS/XTL. And by using a non-standard base frequency that eliminates the possibility of using older Astro gear like the Spectra and XTS3K (as the base frequency cannot be edited in Astro CPS... Only Astro 25).

Make sure the proprietary options features are unchecked.

Could you be more specific?

Also, I found some info on another radio website that says this:

"The radio is attempting to validate the NAC on the P25 voice channel the control channel points to. When the system ID doesn't match up with the NAC on the channel, the radio thinks the traffic does not belong to the system and will not unmute. The work-around for this problem is Intra-WACN Roaming, combined with the correct WACN ID. This effectively disables the check, and allows a Motorola Astro 25 radio to monitor a Harris system."

Under Trunking System>Astro 25...Motorola Prop Features. It is selected by default when you create a new system. I've always thrown the WACNs in just out of habit. Don't think I've actually played with a system requiring Intra-WACN yet.

That is what I was referring to. If the system uses NAC's for the VC's that aren't what the Motorola expects them to be it won't unmute.

Not all Harris systems are like this, but I believe most of the newer ones are.
