To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We have an M7300 mobile that's set up as a base station connected to an outside antenna with an AC power supply. It works great in the room that it's located in.

We would like to have the ability to utilize this radio in one or two other rooms. We need to know if a Harris SP721 remote desktop controller unit will work if it's directly connected to the CAN connector on the back of an M7300 mobile radio?

All of the documentation available for an SP 721 remote unit only refers to it working with a Harris CS700 Control Station unit.

The question for the Harris experts that knows about these SP 721 remote units is will it work (or not) when connected directly to the CAN port on an M7300? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Unknown, according to a Harris tech I just this moment asked. If you have access to a SP721 it's worth a try, as the CAN conenctors are supposedly a standard interface. I do know that Zetron MAX console interfaces connect to the CAN connector on mobiles used as control stations.

This will absolutely work. Have done this numerous times. SP721 is just a Fancy Box with integral power supply and speaker.

X9009X,

Thank you again for your reply and good to hear that you have experience with the SP721 units! I've seen some documentation that mentions "The SP721 supports voice access to the M5300 and the XG-75M/M7300 radios via a PTT microphone". Based on your experience, can the SP721 fully control an M7300 in the same way that a CH-721 control head can, such as changing channels, systems, volume, scan, etc. ?

My guess is yes. Since it goes to the CAN connector, the radio simply sees it as another control head; you would just have to have the necessary programming changes to the codeplug to tell the radio is has more than one control head.

Depending on the vintage of your radio you'll have either one or two CAN connectors on the rear panel, which if they're not connected to a control head should have the dummy CAN connector in place. If I recall correctly the CAN bus is a serial data bus, possibly RS485 which is what the earlier radios like the M7100 used.

Sorry for the delay in answering. Yes all features will work just as if you were using the CH as you were in a vehicle.

This. It's just a remote head in a box with a power supply and speaker. No custom circuitry at all.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but will it work with an XG-100M? Does any firmware have to be changed?
Yes, for the same reason it works with the 7300M/75M, it's just a control head in a box. Same firmware (latest 7.17) for both.

Thanks redbeard, just wanted to be 100% sure!
