Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Harris P5450 UHF 440 - 512 MHz radio which works OK.

The firmware in the radio is P53U0729 (looking at the radio Revision screen).

This means that the radio is using P5300 firmware. A P5300 is a 900 MHz Harris radio (I think).

The PERS is 54.00 (so it was last programmed with RPM on May 21 2009). The DSP is 07.28.

So why does my 450 MHz P5400 have 900 MHz P5300 firmware??

That doesn't look like a valid firmware revision to me... for an older radio like that it would likely have ECP FW in it which should be something in the format of R16D07 or similar. Also, the firmware is band agnostic, it is only model specific, not band split specific.

Yes, I was expecting something like J2R18D07 which is in my P7100.

But I checked out a P5400 which was for sale online and had an image of a print out of its specs and that P5400 was using ECP firmware P53U0733......so "P53" may not mean a P5300 900MHz radio??

Anyway, it help ease my concern that my P5400 might have some proprietary firmware...or maybe the P5400 for sale online also used special proprietary firmware??

I guess I will find out when I read the P5400 with standard RPM software.
