To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Recently acquired a pair of these mobile antennas. Anyone have any technical info/specs or manual? They look like they can be tuned but I've seen a reference online that they may be factory tuned. Not much online about them. Supposed to be multiband VHF/UHF/800.

Thanks,

- Rob

Excellent, thank you for that info. They have a slide on them with two hex screws so that was why I wasn't sure of field tuning. Seems to be a multiband j-pole configuration. Yes, they are expensive new but I got them for a little more than a 1/4 wave antenna price. :)

$210 list price, not that anyone should be paying list…. That is an insane price for a mobile antenna even with ~30% off list.

I'm not sure if they are J-Poles. J pole would be 1/2 wave, and while the install guide does want at least 5 feet of coax between the base and the radio, the design suggests it's just two whips.

One way to check would be to carefully loosen those set screws and see if the bar moves. If it does, see if the bar is conductive and if the set screws bite into the whips.

We're slowly migrating to XL-200m's and I'm going with the Larsen or EM-Wave multiband antennas. About 1/4 of the list price of the Harris/Sti-Co.
