To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I know this is an old thread but looking into a 100m to go along with my 100p. Are there still ways of getting features added to the 100m? Thank you in advance…

Interesting thread all the way around.

Can the XG100M be "unbricked" without TAC after a botched firmware upgrade? I've got one sitting on a shelf that was given to me non-op because a local shop tried to upgrade the firmware and "messed it up"...so I'm assuming they went out of order or something.

IF, and only IF the radio will still connect with RPM/Maintenance.
If not, it takes some minor surgery and a load of special procedures to blow a new bootapp into the radio.
You get that "lost/no MRU" error, it doesn't look good.

I have the name of a Harris Dealer that I have been dealing with for the past 2 years now here in the DC metro area. I would like the wideband removed from my XG100M also but unless you can give Harris a legit reason why and being a ham will not work, then you are totally SOL. However I wonder if they would take that You are in the USCG Aux and use your own boat for patrol ??? hmm I think they would want prof you are in the USCG Aux as well. If anyone wants the contact info for the dealer give me a PM

The radio already does marine wideband whether the radio has wideband disabled or not. It also does 2m ham, but does not do 70cm ham, nor does it do GMRS. Everything else would be narrowband.

I thought it strange that a few 2 meter repeater frequencies simply default to wideband and greyed out in RPM.
I am going to try some NOAA sat freqs and test the raw audio from the accessory port.
Low band frequencies also default to wideband.
I don't have UHF so can't vouch for that.

I don't know about the XG-100, but the XL-200's will do wide on the VHF marine channels, as well as 2 meter frequencies, just fine.

To get wide band activated on my XL-200's, I had to send in a letter stating why I needed wide band, as well as copies of the licenses that showed legal use of wide band to get it activated.

I forgot NOAA in the list of authorized wideband freqs.
I don't know if it's now supported, but initially the XG-100P would not allow you to enter the WX frequencies as WB without the WB feature enabled,. It would give you the INVALID SYS error if you selected a system with those frequencies set as WB.

Anybody know what the cost of getting the wideband disable removed from a xg100m would be if its even possible through a dealer.
Don't have a dealer close to me that I know of. I am in Moto country here in northeast Illinois.

I just did it for my XL-200's at work.
Since I'd recently purchased them from a dealer, I was able to get it done for free. They did require me to write an e-mail justifying the need, and including copies of FCC licenses that were still wideband.

And good luck trying to get Harris to simply update the frequency limits vs narrow band limits in the firmware so that UHF ham and GMRS are wideband right out of the box. I tried, and got the cold shoulder. Apparently simple logic doesn't apply in this scenario.

I've often wondered if that was due to ham being the secondary allocation on those frequencies. Maybe not, but it would be a good excuse.

Right, but to be fair, the radio does not have Part 95 approval. Again, another good excuse.

IIRC the couple wide MURS channels also will not program as wideband. Same reason as GMRS I'm sure. There are some broadcast allocations still authorized for wide and not sure if those will work or not. Also haven't tested T-band freqs which are still allowed wide.
