Does anyone have any inside insights they can share about Hartford's plans to move from their legacy EDACS system (still used by Police, EMS, and other city departments minus Fire) to P25? Radio service was testing P25 traffic on some of the same channels as their EDACS system uses. I assume they may have an EDACS migration gateway for EDACS/P25 coexistence on the same radios. Any insights are appreciated...

tested for today only, and deemed to be inadequate. hartford will be switching to a state-of-the-art type II trunked system for improved audio quality starting aug 1.

Are they using the state core?

If not, what a waste of tax payer money. After all, the city has been under state oversight due to their finances for years. The city should be forced to use an already existing core and SAVE money they don't have. Total incompetence... I wonder if they got any grants for this? That would be even more ridiculous.

Harris systems do not use Motorola cores, so that's out of the question.

Thanks for confirming Hartford is finally moving away from their EDACS system. I will miss, however, their juicy channels (street crimes, auto theft, tac1, tac2, etc) which will likely get the Big E on any new system. Hopefully Patrol 1 and 2 will be in the clear but who knows?

Anyone know if their new P25P2 system will have a FDMA or TDMA control channel and what that frequency will be? I looked thru the FCC database and did not notice any new licenses or frequencies for trunked systems for Hartford Emergency Services and Telecommunications.

I highly doubt The Big E wants anything to do with a radio system 40 miles away. Unless you meant to say 'Encrypted', which is still not a banned word here or bad language. I would suspect based on scuttlebutt I've heard is , all LE comms are going to be fully encrypted (as expected).

However, I caution that a lot of information on the new system is behind closed doors and only bits and pieces are known. I suspect they will use the current frequency set they have.

Most agencies (IMHO and monitoring experiences) when they migrate to a new system, slowly take the freq's away from the legacy system as it builds out - unless they add more sites or frequencies, highly unlikely to see a new license
