Conventional 800MHz repeaters are used by the Kansas Highway Patrol in areas where KSIS has not yet been built. The KHP operates on local 800 trunked radio systems in Johnson & Wyandotte Counties (Kansas City Metro), Shawnee County (Topeka) and Sedgwick County (Wichita).

I pretty sure that tower is not used by the KHP at all and the frequencies listed are all input frequencies. (it's a small 50 foot tower attached to the KDOT building at 12th St and Old Trail Rd on the edge of town.) I think it may just be used for the KDOT-5 base radio in the local superintendent's office.

All of "F" Troop (actually they call themselves Troop F, because anyone who saw the old TV show snickers when they say it the other way....) is on the KSCIS Digital Trunked system. In Newton, the three towers to monitor are Wichita, McPherson, and Partridge. You will have to have a scanner capable of receiving P-25 digital transmissions.

Control Frequencies currently are:
867.1125 Wichita
852.2375 McPherson
866.7375 Partridge (sometimes El Dorado "captures" the channel since it is on the same freq)

Talk Groups for KHP-F are 311 thru 328 inclusive, but there are MANY others also of interest in this area. Check the RR database for KSICS.

Thanks alot for the correction. I was just posting what info I found on that tower. When I seen YF - Public Safety Ntl Plan, 821-824/866-869 MHz, Trunked I thought KHP but you are correct. I double checked and it is
KANSAS, STATE OF: ATTN KDOT CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE
Again Thanks for the correction.

I also have a question about Input and output freq. How do I tell the difference?
I didnt see where it shows the difference in this list.

I did hear KHP on 867.1125 CC when I was driving between Newton and Hutch on US50.

I use a PSR-500 with an external cell phone antenna on the car.

So any KHP operating in Harvey Co is on KSICS and not on the Wichita/Sedgwick system? That would sure simplify things for my monitoring. I can't wait for KS to get KSICS built out. It's the same as our CO DTRS which seems to work well and is easy to monitor once you understand it operates like a cell phone system.

Today I heard traffic stops on TG 1360 on the Wichita/Sedgewick system. If all of Troop F is on KSICS, then who's this?

Thanks for the info.

1360 on the Sedgwick County system is linked to a radio set on one of the KHP talkgroups. Which one is up to anyone's guess because I've heard traffic on it that does not come across KHP1 (314) or KHP2 (315) on the KSICS system. One would think that may lead people to believe the troopers are using it instead of the state system, but I hear dispatch on it too, so it must be a patch. To get back to your original question the Harvey County troops are usually on KHP1 for Troop F, but I have heard them on 2 as well; probably because the Reno County troopers seem to run on 2.

In the 700/800 MHz bands, the input (car to repeater frequency, also called the “Offset”) is almost always 45 MHz below the output frequency. In the UHF bands, the input is usually 5 MHz above the output. On the VHF band it is somewhat random as there are no specific "assigned" pairs. When VHF-hi was first authorized back in the 50's, repeaters were all but non-existent so nothing was ever specifically set aside for input/output. I don’t think I’ve actually ever heard a repeater on VHF-lo band, other than in the 10-meter FM Ham band (which technically isn’t VHF since it is still below 30 MHz, although just barely) where the input is 100 KHz below the input, but I understand there are a few systems out there even still. Florida DOT comes to mind. There are enough exceptions though to make it interesting, but this is usually a good place to start looking. If you are trying to find an output frequency from a "Close-Call/Signal-Stalker" intercept, using these rules will normally get you a result......
