I had one when they came out and could not get it to decode P25. We tried and tried and tried, with no luck. Just curious if anyone has had any problems in the Kings, Kern, Fresno, Tulare County areas with P25. Only Kings is what I am really interested in. But I will take all input.

Thanks,

David

Well I don't live in kings co, but are they encrypted? The DB doesn't say yes or no. That could be one reason.

Do you still have the radio? What settings do you have it on? With mine, you really needed to have a strong signal in order to pick it up well. The auto settings worked for me.

David, assuming it's not a signal strength issue (which means you would need a better antenna), questions like these are sometimes best answered by dumping the radio's contents, zipping the file and attaching it here. Most folks use the UASD simply because a lot of programs can import that format, but FreeScan and BCTool are also widely used. All are freeware. The UASD is available from Uniden, and the other 2 packages are linked on the wiki article below, in the software section

Mine works fine in Kern County but then agian I don't think we have any digital that gets out to where I am at. The Fire Tone Out works great.

It's been a few months since I drove in that area(Sept 2008), but I heard everything fine.

As was said though, if they recently went encrypted, you wont hear anything, but your display should tell you that it is encrypted with a ENC.

No they are not encrypted. I think it could have been the scanner I got. Because side by side with a Pro-96, the 96 worked fine.

It works for me

I have one an can hear KCSO from Sanger. Cant' hear Hanford , Corcoran or Avenal as they are too far away and shorter range.

I think Madera PD went P25 awhile back but possibly encrypted. Up north manteca went to it and possibly Tracy PD. None around Fresno Co except Kings county. They jump at the first thing radio vendors show them there in Kings Co. When I worked for them 30 years ago they were the first to go UHF band in the whole area. had to get a "new" Bearcat 210 with 460 Mhz coverage as most scanners back then only had low and high bands.

Yes - Madera PD is using P25 full time. They use two of the same RF channels that are in use in Tulare County (by local small PD's), namely 453.725 and 453.150.
These local pd's complained to me about hearing funny sounds (CAI P25 as it turns out to be...)
One of the PD's (Exeter) has changed out their radios to mixed mode Motorola, and as such, since the
NAC codes don't match what Madera is doing, they never hear them any more.

Madera is not encrypted. I listen to their traffic on my UHF XTL5000 at work in Visalia.
Tracy PD (453.975) is also on P25 (clear - no encryption that I can detect), and when conditions are favorable, I hear them in Visalia too.
If you worked for Kings Co 30 yrs ago, I should know you...
From looking at the code plug in one of the KCSO radios a year or so ago, I didn't see ADP or any evidence of encryption in their radios.
