i have done this on my pro-106 in the past and works great. Take a thin bare wire, wrap around the antenna connection and run it to the earphone jack, makes audio a bunch louder, does it work with 396xt?

Thanks

Outside antenna connector is ground. The head phone jack has 2 contacts, 3 if its stereo. 1 is ground, the other 2 are not. Sticking it into head phone jack is a good way to blow something.

An amplified speaker might be easier and definitely safer for the audio amp in your radio. ;)
