Hearing a new talkgroup for Arkansas Highway Police - 3203 - from the sound of it (traffic stops, etc.), sounds like they may have made the switch from VHF to AWIN. Anyone verify this switchover?

Thanks

crap, i drove to FS yesterday morning and they were doing weigh stations but I forgot to turn the 396 on. I know this has been in the works, want to confirm.

For what it's worth I haven't heard a peep on the normal HP channels in about 10 days but I have a crappy QTH on the south side of Fayetteville in a hole, and can only get spotty reception on them.

New TG was active here in Central Arkansas. Recognized one of the dispatchers as one of the Highway Department Dispatchers. Hearing alot of traffic on 3603 mainly with traffic stops and units getting 10-8 and out of service.

Arkansas Highway Police are still on VHF in Central Arkansas Too

I still hear them on 151.13, and 151.115. Two things to remember, first, all of the state agency VHF radio systems are a backup for AWIN in an emergency, and second, nothing mandates any agency to shut down their original radios after switching to AWIN. The Arkansas Forestry Commission, the AHTD, the State Health and Human Services Department, and AHP all have AWIN equipment and talkgroups, but retain the VHF for emergency backup. Most counties are probably the same way. VHF isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I posted that new TG for update on the RR Database along with a couple of new ones (another Governor's Security TG & the City of Ward TG). Hopefully, database update will come in a day or so, would imagine they are backed up.

In Southwest Arkansas Im Still Hearing Them On 151.010 With A Weigh Station In My Area On The Same Frequency, But Heard They Communicate With Each Other On Labtop (mdt) When They Set Up Check Points. I Did Hear A Highway Patrol Dispatcher Lady "10-4 A Unit And Give The Time" On A Digital Talkgroup The Other Day.

Heard them several times last week using 3203. They have made the switch. I talked with a Hwy Patrol Officer and he said they were using the AWINs now. They still have the VHF's in the cars too.

I spoke with an AHP Supervisor a couple of days ago and he advised me that all units have not been equipped as of yet. The traffic heard on 3201 and 3203 are units already equipped and they are only using them now to get used to the radios various capabilities.
They have more talkgroups but I could not weasel them out of him.

Keep an eye out for the type of antennae on the department's cars: Whips - long, short, stubby; Pigtails; Fat Middle; Hockey Pucks; Yhatzee Cups; etc.

While I have heard the Highway Police on AWIN a few times, around Independence County (Batesville) they still seem to use the Bradford / Almond repeater on 151.130 - also, last week I was in West Memphis and I heard the Highway Police on 151.010

They are using the county sheriff's frequency here. 800 mHz doesn't work really well in the mountains of the northern part of our county.
