Question, do I need the DMR upgrade on my SDS100 to listen? (I’m getting my scanner tm)

You would not need the DMR upgrade to monitor the county's system, which most of the cities apparent;y use. The only city noted as using DMR is Belleair PD, but that is marked as encrypted, so getting the upgrade would not make any difference. There are a few DMR systems used by various businesses, but unless one of them really interests you, skip the DMR upgrade

Clearwater is on a different system, but an SDS100 would be able to hear it as well. A few of Clearwater's talkgroups are flagged as encrypted, but it appears that the Dispatch channels are not.

Not in Sentinel, but you can see the ones flagged as encrypted on the system's database page, if you want to cull them out. However, the SDS100 will skip over encrypted transmissions, so, even if you leave them programmed, the scanner will ignore them. If you do leave them programmed, there is always the possibility that encryption might be turned off, for whatever reason, & if so, you would hear the radio traffic when that is turned off.

You're not currently a Premium Subscriber, but if you were, and used either ProScan or ARC-536 to import systems, you could choose not to import any talkgroup or conventional channel shown to be encrypted. But no subscription is required to use Sentinel, which is free to download & use. You can also download & install Sentinel before the scanner arrives, so that you can become more familiar with it.

To the OP you are free to spend $1000 put in your own scanner spend your own time keeping it working stream it and listen to it yourself.
We're living in with the "App" generation. It's crazy how many people actually believe their Stupidphone really has a scanner in it and because they spent $2.99 at the App Store, stuff just magically works....or at best, dispatchers just stream their comms openly.

Why? because people gave you information and you got defensive over a suggestion to start a feed? Not gonna win over a lot of people with that attitude. Just remember, you get what you give.

I did not get defensive over the feed, I bought a SDS100 so there is no need for this thread to be open. I am receptive of the information and knowledge that you all have.
