ok here is the problem both cable are the same length 25ft one is rg8x the other is lmr 400 both test fine with ohm meter. they both got new pl259 ends. but when i hook up the rg8x i can hear new york city pd fd ect. but with the lmr 400 nothing. the antenna is a radioshack ground plane. i can here my local stuff with the lmr 400 but nothing else. the radio is a homepatrol squelch is at 2 and no atten, no mute and services are turned on. so is it the cable or what does any have any ideas. i though that lmr 400 is the best cable for this but it doesnt seem to work as good as the rg8x. and i have tried three othere cables of the lmr 400 same length and no new york just local area. and all have new pl259s and test good on ohm meter.

Hmm,would you perhaps be bending the LMR-400 to far,I hear that kind of coax is not easy to bend and bending it might do something to the line inside of it.

Did you check it for both continuity of the center pin to center pin and shield to shield plus for shorts across the center pin and shield?
