Win500 Question

Interesting from what I have read I thought sure the program needed to be saved in the scanner. If not then I'm good to go. Thanks. Most likely I may have another question down the road. This is all new to me and trying to learn about win500 from the link that TES sent me.

The only time that you need to directly "save" programming informatiion in the scanner is when you've made an addition or an edit manually through the scanner's keyboard, in which case you would 'save' the change(s).

Uploading from the software saves the programming additions/changes/corrections as part of the process, no addition 'save' selection is needed. (Other than, of course, saving your changes in the software itself.)

That brings up an important point. ALWAYS save changes in the software as soon as possible.
If you change the software, then upload the changes to the scanner, but forget to save them in the software, the next time you upload to scanner, it will overwrite the previous changes and they will be lost.

Win500 Question

Got it! Yes I have been saving all the changes made in my software on Win500. I have now made four changes and have noted each change in my Save As

Now here is a question. I live in Cincinnati and the guy I bought the scanner from has a clone in it from a guy from KY. Cincinnati police is on channel 1 but also on that same channel is Kenton Country KY police. I locked out Kenton County Police on my scanner last week as I don't want to listen to them broadcasting. Since I did that I can't get Cincinnati Police on channel one as they both share the same channel on a different freq.

So I was thinking today if I go into Win500 and Lout Kenton Country Police in the software I can still hear Cincinnati Police since I have not locked it out in the software. Then I would save the changes in my software on my computer upload in my scanner. Now do I need to unlock channel one in my scanner to get Cincinnati Police or since I made the change in my software will channel one be unlocked? Not sure How to do the change in my scanner if I need to do it manually.

So far I haven't made this change in my software but was wondering it this is what I need to do go get Cincinnati Police back on channel one. Kenton Country has several talk groups on channel one not to mention other objects all on the same channel along with other KY police departments all using channel one. All I want to listen to is Cincinnati Police on channel one. Hope all of this makes sense.

Thanks for the info on the other issue saving the changes on my scanner. I got the wrong info.

That doesn't make sense.
What is the exact frequency you are talking about?
I just noticed you mentioned Talk Groups. Is it a trunked system? Then your terminology is all mixed up.

Okay I got it tonight messing with the scanner everything is fine. What I can't understand is I locked out all the airport objects on win500 saved same and uploaded the program to the scanner. Now when on the scanner I still get airport objects. I thought it I lock it out on the win500 it is locked out in my scanner. Now every time I hear a airport broadcast on my scanner I make not of the object and lock it out.

Dick,
I also found this site tonight. Marksscanners.com. It has the win500 program in there plus plenty of information about scanners and ham radios. Not sure if anyone has found this on this forum page. Thought I would share.

Yes, I'm not a big fan of his work. Too "wordy" and too much intricate detail that novices don't need or want and too much that serious scannists already know (or should know), like "How trunking works", etc. And it takes forever to find out how to do certain tasks.

Read the section of the GRE manual on "V-Files."
