Look up info only to find out conservations are closed. Every time I try to access the "easy" manual for BCD996P2 is get, "unfound!" The manual is a joke, one heading announces how to reset scanner. Press 2 AND 9 while turning scanner on. Guess what, IT DON'T WORK!!! Just goes into scanning. How many times am I supposed to push this combination? No where in the manual is there a list of steps to do anything. Sure, there are scroll and many alphabetized acronyms which to a new owner mean nothing. Who came up with this system should be required to visit every new purchaser and set up their scanner. Am I upset, better believe I am. I was elated when I successfully programed trunking systems. Guess that's what they are called. Scanner worked fine for about 2 hours then everything went silent. Couple of sounds but not enough to call a contact. Now nothing. What I did program took up 11% of memory. Few more days of frustration and Uniden will receive it back!

I don't think you're taking your time and reading the manual very well. There's a whole table of contents explaining all those acronyms and detailed explainations of every feature. There's even step by step instructions that you seemed to overlook (example of same attached). There's a reason everyone here recommends the 'easier to read' instructions. Also 11% of memory seems outrageous for a hand programming a trunked system. I suspect you are doing something wrong. You could also save yourself a ton of work by getting a programing cable and some software.

Try to resolve issues with help from folks here on the forums. Unless your radio is actually defective, do NOT send it to Uniden Repair to be checked out. If the radio is new and you suspect it is defective, use your return/exchange privileges to get a replacement unit. Sending it in to Uniden generally means you will not have your radio for a month or more.

How long have you had this unit? From where was it acquired? Do you buy it new or used ?

The 996P2 is a well traveled road, it's been on the market for more than half a decade, and the aforementioned 'easier' manuals are well thought out.

It can be a daunting task to hand program a trunked system into a DMA style scanner, but it has been done before with careful planning and methodical data entry.

What I seem to see is "I read parts of a manual, I didn't follow the instructions to the letter, It can't be my fault it must be the hardware."

if you want to reset the hardware to empty and try again, @mikewazowski 's post is correct.

No one ever has to know how many times you started over before you get it, or how many different pathways you took to get to what you want, but keep trying, you'll get farther each time.

What month is it?
It's like my wife - anything that goes wrong is Microsoft's fault.
(I never is - 99% operator error, or lack of rudimentary knowledge...)
