My PRO-106 (purchased used 09/10 for $300, prob. the same value then) was stolen back in April 2011, along with my digital camera ($400 new; ~$350 value) and GPS ($300 new; $200 value), right out of my room. The thieves were too stupid to take the cable to program the scanner, or the DVD-ROM for the GPS, or the charger for the camera's proprietary battery. The police were not able to find them in any pawn shop.

I thought the same fate occurred with my FT-50RD (after listening in to an stand-off right in my own yard), but it later turned up after I got my stuff back from the cleaners after a house fire.

Have you ever had scanners or similar equipment stolen?

Dude, sorry to hear someone put the lift on your goodies!

Only thing I ever had pilfered was a car stereo (the door of my old Pinto was so rusted it was easy to unlock it) . . . but luckily they left my two Nikon F cameras behind. That was over 30 years ago.

Since then my cars have almost always been garage kept, and I always take the GPS, microwave receiver (aka radar detector), and anything not permanently mounted with me (or put them in the glove box) when I leave the car parked elsewhere.

Back in the 70's someone stole the CB's out of my dad's and my cars.
In the 90's I had a set of saddlebags taken off my bike that was full of camera gear after a day @ the races

My home 20 eating pizza.
I've had the cord sliced and my lightbar stolen from a parking garage once but fortunately they decided it was too much work to get in the car and take the CB, portable, and scanner that was in there.

I never saw anybody else with that style lightbar around the area and right after it was stolen for the next 2 or 3 years I'd see a van driving around with the same model on it. Unfortunately I never got close enough to check the number to see if it was mine. I still miss that light... GRH!!!

If you are an ARRL member, they offer a deal with Hanover Insurance to for policies written specifically for radios, scanners, and computers. It comes with a $50 deductible and the policies are actual cash value, so they don't hold back depreciation. Theft is covered under the policies. I've used it, and I can highly recommend it.

If you have homeowner's insurance, you may be able to add an endorsement or a standalone inland marine policy for your gear, but the premiums and deductibles are likely higher than the ARRL policies.
