• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So I've had my Mts2000 for 5 months and it was working fine in till 2-3 weeks ago..The Audio started to cut off in the middle of radio traffic and now it seems like it got worse!...i have to keep pressure on the speaker in order to listen if not i will not hear nothing at all not even the button noises...So obviously it has to do with the speaker since it seems the problem is there..I currently have 2 rubberbands around it with a couple of small folded papers holding it down so i can listen(some times the radio traffic comes in fuzzy but u can tell its the speaker). When i connect the shoulder mic it works perfect since it has its own speaker...What do you think it may be? a lose screw or something?any thought?

if you open the case you will see a flex strip going from the front housing to the main board. the connector on the board has a clip that sides out a little bit. slide the clip and fully reseat the strip. also double check the little double jumper between the RF and the main board, this usually kicks up.

to open the housing you unscrew the antenna, pop both channel and volume knobs off, remove the battery and you will see 2 slots at the bottom. insert a flat head screwdriver and pop the housing off the tabs at each side. the slide it forward enough to clear the volume/channel switchs and lay it open. do this carefully, if you snatch on it you can ruin the flex strip.

i have seen it a couple times where the solder at teh speaker cracks. if this is the case use just enough heat to melt solder, about 350, and only touch it for a second or you melt the flex.

Try what David said, this way you cover all your basis, but in my opinion, sounds like the voice coil in the speaker going bad. I would replace the speaker.

i told you how to take it apart.

with both speaker and PTT not working i am leaning towards either the flex strip is bad or kicked loose.

if you popped it partially out of the case the side connector is no longer contacting the internal contacts for the accy plug.

my suggestion would be to take it to someone who does know then, honestly if you cannot tell if a flex strip is kicked you do not know enough about radios to be fooling around inside it without hands on help. this is not a dig at you, everyone is at that level at one time or another.

if you screw up the flex, expect to replace the front housing. if you screw up the connector on the board, expect to replace the radio as many places won't or can't fix it.

OK, it does sound like rescue674aa (not the OP) is talking about problems with a speaker mic. The OEM Jedi mics aren't easily serviceable because they're hermetically sealed. If the speaker mic's your problem, it's easiest just to get a new one.

yep, just realized we had a thread hijack. the problem with the speaker mic could be the cord or the mic head. neither are repairable, you buy whichever part you need. double check the pins on the radio end, the common problem is folks do not use the lock down screw and the pins break from the plug moving. last time i bought some from M they are almost 20.00 a PIN, much cheaper to just get a new cord.

Just Echoing what has already been said!

My suggestion is just do like the guys suggested and take it to a certified /\/\otorola radio repair shop. I have taken a few of these apart myself to refurbish them and you really have to be careful. A slight tear on the flex and you could be looking at a costly repair bill. If you don't feel comfortable or just don't know enough about this particular radio, let a certified tech handle it. It's the best way to go. Just a suggestion
