To all,

I have received a message from Allen Graham, host of HCJB's DX Partyline,
that the program will be closing down, with the final edition to be
broadcast on the weekend of May 28/29 2011.

The show was first broadcast on May 29, 1961, which means that it will have
celebrated 50 years at the date of closing.

I have been a contributor to DXPL since 1979, currently with special
monthly episodes of the Australian DX Report, and I have welcomed the
opportunity to have been able to support HCJB's worldwide mission over those
32 years.

DXPL currently is broadcast on shortwave over HCJB-Australia at Kunnunurra,
Weatern Australia, and on relay over WRMI, WWCR, and European Gospel Radio
(IRRS-Nexus)

The show on April 30 carried Allen's announcement of the impending closure.

Regards from Melbourne!

A very sad day and while I hate to add another sad note, it's germaine- Clayton Howard, whom I knew from several ANARCons, passed away earlier this year at 92. He was quite a gentleman - very knowledgeable, and the stories from his days as a missionary in China were not to be missed.

He hosted DXPL for many years. The end of an era, as Bob suggests. best regards..Mike

That would be Glenn Hauser; and I believe he posts pretty much weekly. He's the one that hosts the DXLD (DX Listening Digest) Yahoo group. If you want schedule observations mixed in with DX tips (and the occasional FM or BCB item) this is one very good place to be.

And a footnote - Glenn is not his real first name. Trivia time...(smile)

best regards..Mike

I really miss this and all of the other HCJB shows (Ham Radio Today, Musical Mail Bag). I listened to these shows for a very long time till they stopped broadcasting to North America. I sure miss the shortwave programs of years ago. Used to listen to AFRTS all day at work during the 70's.

Yes, I sure miss HCJB. I loved the old programs, Crackerbarrel, Morning in the Mountains, etc. They handled their ministry very nicely and wern't pushy or screaming at you like you typically hear on religious radio. (or made wacky EoTW predictions!)

One of my first SW Qsl cards was from HCJB in 1972. (I loved going to the local Post Office, in my small town and ask for International Reply Cupons, IRC's, and see how the teller reacted!) It was signed by chief engineer Roger Stuble. Years later in 1983 they had a special Amateur radio event using their SW antennas with their Amateur radio station HC1JB and I was able to make a contact with them on 15 meters. Guess who I made contact with - Roger - and got a QSL card too! The antenna he used was their steerable parabolic reflector. Great signal!

Recently returning to SWL after nearly 40 years I was very disappointed to hear that HCJB was off air. I truly enjoyed their broadcasting in the 60s and 70s and had quite a collection of their varied QSL cards, now sadly lost. A shame, but that's the reality of 21st century worldwide communications. I totally agree with aa4wa's comment about them never being pushy about their faith. As a man of the cloth myself I try to do the same!
